Today in my lesson i jumped a 70cm showjumping course! ;D
It was a choice between going to the outdoor to jump or to go on a hack which there might be some scary cantering moments - from my experience, cantering in a group on hacks is usually very hairy lol!. I was riding the horse which i fell off when he got tangled up over poles on the ground about a month ago so i was already a bit nervous about jumping. So basically, either option was scary! ;D
Anyway, we went up to the outdoor and we had to do a bit of warming up in open order - i was a bit all over the place and my gaiters didnt really help, it was amazing the difference sticking my trusty chaps on. There was a course set up about 40 or 50 cm and shes like 'oh we'll put the jumps up, we're big girls now' and i was like 'aw crap'
of course they looked huge
There was two spreads which i am especially nervous of as i haven't really done much of them, cept on connie and once on kieran which was a disaster lol
so each of us went round the course one at a time. i was watching everyone else totally crapping myself, i was even nervous watching it! most people jumped the spreads and a few people fell off over a particular blue and white upright, number 6, which turned out to be the bogey jump lol!
anyway, by the time it got round to me i had decided i was gonna give it a go. RI had said to me im not gonna force you to jump them, you can just do your warm up. its weird but i think when someone tells you you dont have to do it, then i find myself actually doing it! it was the same the other week on that big horse who was a bit lively and she said 'sure just trot round' and i go out and canter round
plus i really did want to jump a 70cm jumping course - its like my goal that i didnt expect to achieve till way in the future, i just was over thinking and imagining and worrying.
also i thought it would be a total waste of money to not do it as that was the most of the lesson as we got two rounds and did some discussing.
anyway. i was totally crapping it but i got really determined and S is a really nice jumper. over the first which was a gold and red crosspole and onto the second which was the spread (crosspole and back pole) - however, i didnt do the spread, she took the back pole down for the girl before me who had probs - was sorta glad i think that would have been pushing it lol - he cantered on after the first and i relaxed and let the guard down and he stopped the wee bugger!
anyway, turned round and approached it again and jumped it and then onto number 3 which was a pink and white crosspole. he pecked on landing and thought he was gonna hit the dirt again but we cantered on.
number 4 was a orangey upright, number 5 was another spread again taken down. number 6 was the bogey fence but i jumped it both rounds fine, number 7 was a yellow and white upright.
i was actually feeling like i was having quite good fun and it wasnt so bad after all so i decided to do the second round.
was so totally over the moon - cant believe it!!
it wasnt perfect of course. it was a bit slow, mainly trotting and then cantering into the jumps etc. but better that than getting too fast and leaping about etc. think my leg position was ok, it felt quite secure. hands were a bit dodgy though i think. but over all, kept myself in the saddle and in the right position to ride on so it mustnt have been too bad.
anyway. was really pleased with myself for doing it!!! i havent jumped 70cm course before. have jumped bigger but not as a course and not on any of my ponies believe it or not lol!
plus apparently i made it look easy . people keep telling me im doing well and i never believe them lol! i think i have too high expectations of myself.
yay!
