Had a real giggle last night. Set up a grid of canter poles for Basil to try for the first time. Did them at 9 ft. He walked and trotted them fine but they were too short for his canter really although he can canter on the spot!! He ended up doing the run and Ive no idea what he did with his feet, he didnt touch one but there was some fancy footwork going on. My mate H who had just arrived, fell about laughing!!! Fortunately I could then get H to sort out the distances and we set up a really simple cross pole grid. He was worried about doing more than one jump as Ive never done more than single poles with him. He ran out at the second jump at the first attempt but had a good look at it as he did so and on the second try he breezed through, really enjoying it. Did it a couple more times both ways for good measure and was really pleased with his attitude. He is not going to be a star this horse, but he is a lot of fun!

brilliant description, I can just imagine his feet flying everywhere trying to avoid the poles.
Has he completely settled now at his new home? no more mischief?

He is soooo chilled out fi- he is like another horse! Poor lad must have been going crazy! He was quite a stress head to ride and seemed quite volatile but now he has settled so much more and in the school he is always trying to please, its hard to imagine he was so tricky, amazing what a bit more turnout and some patience can do. I cant thank the new YO enough for taking him on!

That is so brilliant it is so important for horses to be horses. Seems such a simple thing but so many people don't get it. Mr Pete absolutely loves his field time we are lucky that he gets pretty good turn out. He is happy that is the main thing.
