Had a private lesson today. Was on one of the horses i rode on sat - Bernie lookalike (SD).
It was brilliant. Totally knackered though We did a lot of cantering. You would think that its just a matter of sitting there but no. Its hard work cantering for laps lol! Plus my horse had a funny rocking horse canter - he was thinking forward but i was bouncing and tipping forward for some reason - A the instructor said my lower leg was slipping back. I was probably tense and subconsciously worried about him getting too fast although he kept a beautiful steady rhythm the whole go. I think i look like a numpty and all stiff whereas my friend was making the cantering look easy lol! However, i think as i got into the ride i got more relaxed and glued into the saddle but i think you can still notice my tension.
We did a good bit of jumping - SD is likely to run out at jumps so perhaps i was a bit tense in my determination to get over the jumps. I think my reins were a bit tight but i guess if they were longer i mightnt have had the same control. A few times he took off early over the upright but what a good boy looking after his rider - he put the handbrake on and threw his head up and i was thrown back into the saddle - what a good boy!! ;D At least i need never worry about falling off after a jump on him lol! Just before the jumps
We did a small bounce then and that was good. We got a lead over it the first few times but my friends horse sort of backed off it and then SD felt my hesitation and ran out. However, got him over it afterwards and he was very good.
Then we practiced leg yielding but didnt really get very far with it. However, A said we got a few steps here and there so that was an achievement! I am to read up about it for the next day.
Really enjoyed it. Good points: i was looking up all the time and A said i got on with SD very well and he wouldnt jump for everyone and i ride him well at the jumps so that considered that high praise!
Feel a bit like my riding has gone downhill though Just feel like my skills arent as good as they used to be - am talking like im 90 yrs old here lol!
