Hacking out this weekend I stumbled across something that I've never noticed before. And of course once you notice something it becomes even more apparent and you notice it more and more! I'm not sure if its me the way I sit or Eddie. And I hope its not a problem (physical I mean). I went into trot and it felt slightly uncomfortable - I thought for a second that Eddie was a bit uneven. Asked S to watch her, not a problem and moving normally. So trotted again, felt completely normal. Next time, same uncomfortableness. If I hadn't noticed it the first time though, I wouldn't have second time round but you know what its like when you're looking for a problem. This continued throughout the hack, sometimes normal, other times I just felt slightly more unbalanced I guess is what the feeling was. I then realised what was causing the difference - Eddies trot diagonal. Sitting on the left leg back was more comfortable that the right leg back. So do you think its me or her? What would be the reason? I can appreciate that schooling there may be a difference as balance is different, but this was going in a straight line. It was most bizarre. I say it wasn't a big difference, just something that once I'd noticed once I kept on noticing!

Chompy is very 1 sided and always throws you onto one diagonal (the left) whichever way you are going, he is slightly banana shaped to ride, when you go onto the correct diagonal it takes a couple of minutes for him to feel 'right' and you feel slightly twisted in the saddle, but what is actually happening is that you are straightening up and working slightly against him cos he is causing you to collapse a hip.

Same for Basil and a few horses Ive ridden, most prefer a certain diagonal but it should improve with schooling etc.

Pete always 'makes' me go on his left diagonal. I do try to trot evenly. When I know he is tired or if he starts slipping i give in.

It's funny how I've only just noticed - must have been favouring the left diagonal before! Glad its not just me though or a physical problem. Lesson at the weekend. Will mention it then and see what I can do to improve it.
