I thought breeches originally were loose ont he hips (old fashioned)??

Well stoopid ..... Here's my understanding: Jods come down to your ankle and often (usually?) end in a little cuff, to be worn with short boots. Breeches are shorter (end above your ankle) and usually end in a velcro fastening, designed to be more comfortable in long boots or chaps. I buy breeches from Decathlon which are stretchy and tight so I don't believe the term is linked to bagginess.

I'm with Rac on the understanding although I don't understand why anyone would want their jods to end and then the boots to start! cold legs...if you've got long socks on it surely defeats the purpose...why not just have jods down to the ankles?

I agree breeches were designed for hunting originally I think where they ended just below the knee, with a buckle pre velcro days. Now they just look like washing machine accident jodhs.

Crumbs no, I couldn't wear your jods. I always, always wear half chaps, my breeches stop just above my ankle and the chaps cover it all up comfortably. There would be too much bulk otherwise.
I don't get riding without half chaps. For me it isn't comfortable.

You do wear socks too Flea! So there is no exposed skin! I think it would be impossible to wear long boots with cuffed jods.

i wear long jods with long boots. I have to turn them up cause they are always too long with my diddy little legs. I fold them around my leg and as long as u get it in the right place there not uncomfy with long boots. might try getting some breeches they sound good!

originally breeches were for wearing under long boots and jods for short boots.
I prefer breeches as it means no thick ankles- I had lovely pair of italian leather boots which had narrow ankles and could not have worn jods with them.
