The weather was finally good enough (sunny, not as cold as it has been) to get out for a hack today. Ol' Fatso hasn't been out all week so we set off for a gentle hour or so. Did a lot of walk and he was 'sur l'oeil' - head up, at the ready to beggar off. So I put him into a trot on a gentle incline and that took the wind out of his sails. We pottered around a bit, walking up lots of hills - not much alternative around here - and found a grassy track that was bathed in sunshine and so had thawed out so could not resist a little canter. If it had been flat Paco would have put in a buck or two but it was sloping up enough to make that difficult for him I often say he's not the brainiest of boys but he does know some things: I often trot up the bit of lane that leads to home and it is here that he will finally oblige me with nice work: I was very proud of him zig-zagging up the lane doing some nice lateral work but (and here's the killer) even before I asked! Oh dear, I must not be so predictable..... still, it felt really nice (back end relly working and crosSing over nicely) and I used the opportunity of a little trot to work my pelvis - my sitting trot is definitely not as supple as it was. Ah the trials of biddydom.....

I love hacks like that, just a bit of playing and lots of time to ponder life!

Sounds great Rac- you really have lovely hacking where you live. Still, I hope to get out myself tomorrow and Sunday (even if just roads)- I envy you the hills but I am sure my horses don't!
