I don't know if anyone would be interested in this or not, but thought I'd give it a try...
When my lad injured his hock he had a large open wound and had to be on box rest. The problem was that he was (and still is) a very dirty horse and even with clean shavings everyday the wound refused to stay clean and heal. My lovely vet suggested this certain type of rubber matting that is permeable to liquid. My stable was well drained and his wee would go through the matting and drain clean away. This kept his bedding imaculately clean and I just had to poo pick his stable. It also meant I saved a fortune in shavings.
Not only that but its very thick (about 3-4cm) and lovely and spongey. He couldn't lay down due to the massive bandage he had and the matting took some of the strain from his joints due to him standing constantly for weeks and weeks. Jon the vet said he recommends it for horses with DJD etc.
It comes in 1m square mats and I have about 16 mats (not all are whole as they were trimmed to fit my odd shaped stable)
If anyone wants it let me know - I am moving yards again and it already has rubber matting in the stables. I wouldn't recommend it for any stable that isn't well drained as the pee will just sit there and fester (mmm nice!), but in a stable with channels or a gently sloping floor it saves much more money in bedding than normal rubber matting and saves hours in mucking out time!
Don't know how much i want for it - not sure how much 2nd hand matting would be. I paid a couple of hundred for it when I got it.
