Today I was taken for an amazing hack by our YO, in her horse box to the gallops! I was quite nervous but our YO is very experienced and I knew she would look after me. First canter was fine then Pete took off. I could'nt stop, took me ages to pull him up and felt utterly useless. She calmed me down, explained where I was going wrong and after a while I tried again. Success! I cantered my lovely horse for what seemed like hours through the beautiful countryside, the whole raison d'etre. We walked a little more then had one last blast where I managed to keep Pete at the back, he was tired now but still going for it. Hacked home slowly and felt very pleased with myself and my gorgeous boy. I think we will both sleep well tonight!

Sounds like a real tube-clearer!! Great that you got Pete to settle down - it's very tempting for a horsey when there's a huge clear space in front and everyone seems to be just going for it....

Last year I had a gallop on Basil that seemed to go on forever. He was very very fast. I hope I can take him places this year where we can have a really good blast, he is strong but very balanced. It certainly blows the cobwebs!

Soloman- that sounds a really wonderful hack and an excellent instructor. I must admit to feeling very envious.

Sol, that sounds frightening but so much fun at the same time. I wish I could just let go but speed terrifies me and unfortunately holds me back something shocking. I wouldn't mind a lesson with your instructor.

I have felt the no brakes feeling many times lol!! example number one = princess. I have dreamt of having a nice canter along a gallops. Theres actually a sand gallops down the road from me and another private racing yard further down too with their own gallops. The big yard holds races as well and used to have showjumping on grass too.
