Tiny, the new boy, has gone warty. He has gradually developed about a dozen small warts on his muzzle over the period of about 2-3 weeks. Not a good look if he is to show but hey it would get me out of doing that. a friend said one of her 2yr olds in the past did the same and they eventually disappeared on their own with no outside interferance. Anyone have similar experience.

Small groups of lumps in skin of young horses, commonly around eyes, muzzle and under tail. Equine papilloma virus. No treatment necessary as warts are self curing over several months.

Not quite the same, Fall, but Paco has a biggish one (size of a pea) on the front of his head. I got the vet to look at it when he was last here and he dismissed it. Apparently they just go. Here's hoping .....

Yes, not me personally but years ago a youngster on the yard was very warty on his muzzle as a 2/3 yr old. Appareantly it is not uncommon and his dissapeared as suddenly as they came after about 9 months or so so fingers crossed...

Yes, they just go on their own. Can last a while and it's a real bummer if you want to show but you just have to put up with them.

We used to have a pretty strawberry roan, called Strawberry (always have original names) but she was covered in warts, they were there for many months, she got sold so I don't know if they ever disappeared. The warts were all over her face head and neck and quite a few on her body but luckily non where her girth and saddle went.

A number of years back I bought a yearling who was absolutely covered in warts all round his muzzle and eyes, he had them for months but they gradually disappeared throughout that winter. Last year I bought a 2 year old and she was also covered in warts though not as bad as the yearling and they have now all gone.
Its quite common for youngsters to have warts, I never put anything on them and they usually clear up after a few months.

When Sancy was a youngster (yearling or maybe 2) she was covered in them! Bless her she really was an ugly duckling (who of course turned into a swan ;D) All around her muzzle and even around her eyes - not affecting her sight in any way. She had so many the vets actually used photos of them for students to show a 'chronic' case of jeuvenile warts! I don't remember how long they took to disapear but they did and didn't cause her any problems - other than making sure they didn't get snagged on a headcollar.
