Usual feeling of inertia ... could not be bothered to hack down to a lesson ... both kids at home with raging colds ... a very good afternoon film in VO in my local town .....
Anyway, the teenager said I would be PATHETIC if I didn't go so I was sort of obliged .... I thought it might be better to avoid the river route so decided to walk P down through the village. What a good boy he is. There was a bit of busy road and he was a star. I carried a dressage stick with me as I have this technique of holding it out at right angles (I was on foot as it can be hairy) and usually it forces drivers (the French are bottomholes) to give me and P enough width otherwise they just squeeze past. There was one woman who did that, despite nothing coming the other way, and she was so close she caught my whip so I brought it down hard on her roof. I think she had a heart attack.......I hope.....
Anyway, bless the little boy. He was good as gold despite lots of scary stuff.
We got there to find the other girls had not turned up for the lesson so I had an individual lesson. It was wonderful, I can't begin to explain why really....
Elodie rode Paco for a bit first because she likes to 'get' a horse to understand the partnership. She was surprised that although P is 'gentil' - it means kind - he is not an easy ride. HALLALUYAH!!!!!! She said she was impressed that I got him to do so much (mainly thanks to the Brit friend who came to visit last year with loads of advice) and five years of working together ......
Anyway, we did loads of suppling exercises (you all know that P has had an injury that leaves him stiff on the left) and it was wonderful. As I was leaving, E and I were chatting and she asked me in depth stuff about P - how much he had cost, and where from etc ... Then she said that if she could find horses like him for her clients she would make her fortune and she'd have another 20 for her club....
Anyway, this is not to boast. I am just so thrilled that I have found a trainer (who is not obsessed by TBs!!!) who likes little P and can see that although he will never set the world on fire he tries hard at everything and can jump a little, can do some nice flat work, hacks out alone (and how!) and is a general all-round people pleaser.
So I adore E. She also likes small rustic horses and confessed that she likes them a bit round. Just as well, as when I was watching P being ridden I realised he has piled on the winter pork again. He needs spring slimming ...... (and so do I!!!!! )
