I took Chompy to his 1st showing show yesterday and we the coloured class and the cob class, and came 6th and 3rd respectively. However there were only 6 and 3 in the classes. The judge said we lacked ooommph. However the steward came over to me twice afterwards to specifically say that Chompy was her favorite, so I think a bit of bias was coming out from the judge...

Oh yeah every judge has their faveourites no matter what anyone else says! So besides coming last...Did Chompy enjoy himself? Did you? Was he well behaved?

Showing is very biased...very much if your face fits....lol
As long as you are happy with Chompy and how you went, thats the main thing.

Chompy was... well Chompy, with the sun shining he was quite content to stand in line and doze off,and follow everyone else in the correct pace but at half their speed so we ended up at the front and ended up going even slower. Then when I tried to get him out of low gear and gave him a tap with the stick he threw in a cheeky buck which the judge saw, (a bit of bad timing on my part). But it is all learning, I am trying to find him a job which gets me out meeting new people and that he will enjoy until I can find a horse that doesn't go nuts or fail the vetting and I can start properly jumping and doing dressage again.

As long as you enjoyed yourselves & you were happy with the way Chompy went, who cares what the judge thought?! Shame the steward wasn't the judge

Showing is so biased it's almost unbelieveable. I know someone who used to find out where a certain judge was going to be each weekend and go to that show because she knew the judge liked her horse! Bernie was the same when i tried in hand showing him, would stand and dose off then refuse to trot, very embarrassing. plus never got placed because i didn't hog him at that time so they though he was scruffy. Gonna get my sharer to bring him to my local show this year tho to show him off

I have been in touch with the owner of the Clydesdale X a couple of times, but daren't go and look until my money is safely back in my bank account and Lady is back down the road - yes I have still got her, still waiting to find out when she will go. Just as well I have plenty of grass and I am no paying for livery - that's the problem when you try to buy of friends and it all goes wrong - things are bit slow.
I have also had a phone call off some other friends who have a lovely 16hh, 6 year old. The daughter is up and coming show jumper, she bought him to bring on over the winter as they had a spare space in the lorry due to one of her other horses being injured, now that one is back in work there is no space for this one. Apparently he is a real confidence giver but has been out jumping 1m - 1.20m competitions all winter. Again can't look until I have the money in the bank.

is very bias.
last year we came first in one class and last (out of about 12!) in another. it was sox's first showing class, and when all the horses started cantering round, she decided to bolt round, so we stood in the middle. this was at the beginning of the class, and after this we were just ignored, we did a beatuiful individual show and the judge hardly even watched! i suppose it was our fault, but the rest of it was so good and she ignored it completely.
its a waste of time x
