We decided to go for a lovely Xmas morning hack in the woods, lovely and quiet on the road to the woods then.... Three horses went cantering by on a track a bit ahead of us and our boys were trembling with excitement. The thing is we were terrified in case they had taken off. We seriously have braking issues. Really don't feel in control in a situation. Stronger bits? A cop out I know, more schooling We keep trying that, more confidence-only if we get some more good experiences HELP!

Sorry Sol, i have no advice only to keep you company in your fear because i would have been sh*tting it. Fat lot of help i am lol!
But think of the positives (that will be my new year resolution actually!) - they didnt take off so it shows that he is a well behaved horsey and i would imagine most people would have braking issues when their horses are caught up in the moment.
Try not to think of the what if's and keep on going! ;D

dont change anything - your horse didnt bolt! thats an awesome result....next time you can worry a little less! give your horse a big carrot and think - wow, you are amazing - you were trembling with exitement to go but you respected me enough not too - trust your horse a little more than you did yesterday!

Totally echo Ceej and Flea. He didn't give chase and that's what counts. Most horses would get worked up at horses galloping past.
