Does anyone find that there horse is either good beond belief or sooooo naughty that you loose the will to rise them? Fire had been so good recently, very good out hacking jumped him Sat and he was a super star. Prob jumped the best hes ever jumped.
On Tues though, took him out in the morning and started off well, we rode parraell the main road with lorries/vans/cars/buses going by no probs. Sugarbeet got grown across the path so we picked our way through it. He was being good as gold it was a lovely clear morning. At the end of the field was some quite tall but spbottom undergrowth follwed by a ditch about 18in x 18 in. Which he negotiated no probs got to the top path and The was some banging coming from the farm across the field but nothing hes not used too and he was walking a long lovely, when ....he spotted a tractor. He started staring, trotting a few strides then ploughing on the breaks, ignoring me completley when I asked him to go forward. Another tractor appeared then that was it he started snorting, his head went up like a giraffe, and had that feeling like he might spin any second. So with the rd behind us I got off and led him.
After leading him a while I thought it ought be safe to get back on, so I did. He was being quite forward going but no too bad. There was a really low branch ahead so I leant over his shoulder as usual, just got out the other side and he did a massive shy. One more step and I'd been a goner, but lucky the was a thorny bush he put us in instead. What was it he spooked at? ...a molehill We go under that branch usually once a week and have done for years and its not neccassary I don't think.
We were given 6 off cuts from telegraph poles to turn into jumps, somedays he'll act like there not there and others he won't stop spooking at them. To the point of if your jumping a jump towards them soon as his foot hits the floor hes shooting sideways.
Got back to the yard led him past the forklift just as Dad started it up and he didn't even budge. Grrr He sees at least 10 tractors/lorries/jcbs a day. I feel like every time I'm starting to trust him again he goes and does something to unerve me I just can't trust him. Its like something switches in his brain and he can't let it go and it just makes him difficult. hes never a bit naughty its all or nothing, he is the chesnut arab with a curl. Just quite disheartnin. Fi's Trec piccys look soooooo fun and I'd love to have a go with him, but I think even if we could box him and take him places, he could be unmanagable when I got him anywhere. Am I being unrealistic to think its even a remote possibility when he has moments like this?
