I just need to have a vent when I bred my last litter of puppies two years ago, I entered an agreement with a friend about one of the bitch puppies, Angora, I didnt charge for the puppy (normally £800) on condition that she mated Angora to a dog we both agree to and I would have a male puppy back from that litter as payment. Well she has gone back on this agreement and mated Angora to a totally unsuitable dog without my agreement. I am so angry and feel terribley let down. Unfortunatly we did not put anything down on paper, I thought we were friends and that she would keep to her side of the agreement. This really messes up my breeding plans, and of 15 years of careful breeding and planning has gone right down the plug hole, not to mention a friendship

In civil lawa verbal agreement is binding accept in matters pertaining to real estate. You could take out a private prosecution in the small claims court if you can be bothered and if its worth it, a solicitor would probably not touch this as not enough money in it which is why you would need to do it yourself at County Court. At least you know now she is not a friend and never really was! Brig

Thanks Brig, I sent her a s@@t o gram telling her what I thought of her and what she has done, I am waiting to see what her reply will be. If she doesnt offer to pay for the dog, I will then ask for the money and if she doesnt pay up I will then consider court action, but she is in Germany would it still "hold water"?

No! 'Unless the dirty deed occurred here! but then even if it did it would be enforcing any decision a County Court made. Also civil action I believe pertains only to British law. There may be some cross over because of the European Union etc but I dont think so. I think you are stuffed!!!! Hope you can appeal to her better nature! Brig
Oh just one other thing- most Solicitors offer an advice service for a small amount of cash, or most memberships of organisations (inc the BHS) offer a free law advice line where you ring and can ask for advice. My law knowledge is really rusty but an advice line will give you current legal advice and it doesnt have to be about horses etc. Give it a try- at least then youll know for sure! Brig

What a betrayal to you. I hope you can work things out. Maybe you can try for a second breeding when the time comes. We got Bogie, our first Staffordshire Bull Terrier under a breeding contract. We got her for free but the breeder got her first litter. Unfortunately Bogies first littter didn't survive so technically we still had Bogie but the breeeder lost out. We ended up being friends with the breeder and for the next four breedings she supplied the male and we split the litter and all the costs. So in the end it worked out. I'm hoping that you can work things out with your friend.

Some friend!!!! I can't remember what breed you raise - I think it might be Afghans? How beautiful. I've always wanted a Harlequin Great Dane and a wolfhound/deerhound (not so good for my chickens perhaps) and the OH has always loved Rhodesian Ridgebacks. We ended up with boxers because life is funny that way (and a good number of lovely mongrels too). So if anyone knows of a white boxer that is about to be put down because it is white grrrrrrrrrrrr .. let me know.... I'll take them all ....

Stray dogs always find me- my little scruffy terrier found me when he was really desperate and now he is a lovely friend to my son. Ive re homed countless, cats as well. I bought a pedigree dog (english setter) and she gave me many years of hapiness and heartache when she died, but now I dont think Id buy another pedigree as there are so many desperate mutts and moggies out there, will probably try English setter rescue at some point but dont think Id buy a puppy!
