Went round to my aunties yesterday for a hack. I was happy to go on my own with her without anyone walking which is a big thumbs up for me as the only times i have been on a hack without anyone walking is at the RS and when we had Jack (the pony) over at our house and mum rode him.
So anyway, Jack doesnt get ridden much these days - sometimes one of my cousins takes the odd notion to take him out or id come over and ride him. But he is the sort of pony you could leave in the field for days and then take a notion to go for a hack and he'd be the same as if you were riding him regularly. Hes not even a cheeky pony really - i think my cousin finds him boring because he is so push button and well behaved but i like that sort of thing - reliable, you know? Hes forward going but very bombproof and safe, but even though ive had wee goes on him and rode him lots before theres always something in my head stopping me from trusting him - even though ive seen the proof of how great he is.
So anyway, off we went. Decided just to go on a 30min hack in the end. Theres a lane/road which i suggested we go for a trot so i was tearing off ahead - Jack was loving it, he kept trying to trot faster so you have to keep checking him back - i was really enjoying it, grinning away, even though afterwards i was a bit wobbly (see what i mean about being a wreck? lol!). Auntie couldnt get L going - she was being slow yesterday (as in couldnt get her walking fast) and she was thinking of maybe giving her something to waken her up a bit but i think she gets a bit scared of her being too lively as shes a big 16.2hh IDxTB (even though shes not fast - Connie cantered faster than her). But anyway, i trotted on thinking L would maybe trot on to follow Jack - then he got too far in front and she panicked and auntie said she could hardly hold her (so much for being slow lol!!). Anyway, it was good craic and she got pulled up easily once they had caught up! I think she just needs a bit of extra energy, shes probably using all the grass and haylage to keep the fat on - she doesnt hold her condition very well, although she has a rug on and comes in at night.
First enjoyable ride ive had in a very long time (well it feels like that). Ive had a few other rides since selling Kieran but i didnt enjoy them really.
Ive been really missing being involved in all the horsey things that go on, (i cant stay off this damn computer, its like my horsey fix!) - i suppose all the good things about havign a horse. But im not really dying to ride and im not dying to look after them. I dunno really. The odd wee ride is great. Will maybe stick with that and see how im feeling after Xmas, will maybe have lessons, i dunno. But probly not at my RS, i dont think it would help me much. There is a good one Kierans last owner goes to but it is about 45mins away - lots on, horses look in good nick, nice place, cobbled yard, indoor, outdoor, XC course etc etc. All very properly done BHS style. I went to watch her lesson but i think dad would have a fit if he heard we were driving that far for a riding lesson lol!!
