Yup, I'm going to get my backside into gear and get to some Trecs this winter. I really enjoy them as a team (more of a laugh) and my mate who is also a guide (but cannot read a map to save her life, which is something of a disadvantage in a guide ) wants to get some under her belt too. So I'll teach her to map-read and we'll have a giggle together. Just need you guys to keep on my case and not let me sit on my fat backside all winter ......

We'll keep askng for reports and videos and photos and results so that will keep you on your toes Rac!!!! They are running a newcomers and open class at Sandyflats in Glasgow on 23 January and i have enquired if it would be suitable for Ben and me. Not orienteering of course, it will be the Paces and Obstacles elements I think. Sandyflats is an indoor RDA place in the north of Glasgow, no maps required there.... just yer tin hats.... Just this second had a reply from the lady running it, from Rhoda of Making strides- lovely long email full of info and even offering lessons before 23 January!!! Now I am really looking forward to it. ;D

Good for you Ben! Sounds a great way to get into it but watchout, you'll get hooked! TREC really is for everyone and is a great test of the rider/horse bond... And then you'll want to do the orienteering too, which really is brilliant fun, honest, especially in a team/pair! Might be an idea to have some lessons first if they are on offer. It's funny what freaks some horses out, but especially the 'low branches' - when you get it wrong and knock a bamboo down onto your horses' backside, they'd better be used to it !!!!!
