I was advised by the chiro to put Peter on Devil's claw, can't say it has made much noticeable difference. Do they need to be on it a long time, is it joint improving or just pain relief? Is the only way to see if he needs it to stop it and see if he goes downhill? Any ideas, thoughts folks? Thanks.

I think it is meant to be a natural anti-inflammatory? Which would reduce swelling and hence pain in joints. I had JB on it for a year (plus cortaflex) and noticed nothing I have to say. It is well recommended and I know a good few people on this forum find it great - I think Ceej is one. So I guess its horses for courses as they say. DB has Murphy on a supplement which combines devils claw with joint 'helpers' such as glucosomine and Chondrin (i am sure they are spelt wrong) so it might be worth a look.

Sol, like Duckles says - Ceej uses Devils Claw and thinks its pretty good. I have Murphy on Flexaden and it took approx 3 weeks for me to see a noticable difference. It is costly tho - I found it cheaper on the internet - approx £80 for a 1060g tin (lasts approx 7 weeks - 600kg+ horse).
What works for one, doesn't always work for another! If you would like the link for Flexaden, just give me a wee shout & I'll get you the link - it might be worth a try.

I tried P on Devils Claw and can't say I noticed a difference. He was on Glucosamine at the same time - that really made a difference, I noticed particularly to his knees. I've since swapped him onto EquiFlex which is a combination of Glucosamine and ....something I can't remember the name of! But reccomended by vet. Not sure if theres any difference as he's also on bute now! I've seen adverts for a new 'wonder drug' which claims to be as powerful as bute but is natural with no banned substances. Can't think for the life of me what it's called right now. I do think it was quite pricey though.
