As some of you might know my horse and i have a bit of an issue when it comes to loading I have always maintained that kind though my friends are, there is an element of stress that creeps in when borrowing somebody elses trailer. Also i never have it long enough to put some really good practice in. I now am in a possition to buy a second hand trailer of my own After looking at what is out there and coming to the conclusion that I want something light but not too light. It must also be sturdy enough to take a few knocks. Then a kindly so told me about a trailer that might be available at a good price and they would be able to install (properly) an alluminium floor under the rubber. Great idea i thought, as new ones tend to have them as standard and the law might go that way anyway, as it has with cattle and sheep. THEN another kindly sole told me that a local box dealer as been getting negative feed back on Allu floors because of the vibration. This really made me sit up and take notice, as concussion related lameness is one thing i would rather do without. Has anyone else heard of this problem?

I have never heard of it and as I have an alluminium floor, I'm not sure I want to hear of it!! I have had the alluminium floor for 3 years now and have no complaints. I was always worried with the wooden floor as I know a guy whose horse put his foot through the wooden floor a week after the trailer was serviced. (It had rotted) I also heard (and don't know how correct it is) that for conversions they only put a layer of alluminium over the wood so it wouldn't stop a floor rotting. I will be interested to hear what other people say about the vibration. Good luck with the new box by the way - it is lovely to have the freedom of your own. WOuld you consider fiber glass???

Never heard of that. I think wooden is fine as long as you check it out yourself - my dad doesnt trust servicers. Our IW floor was wooden although it was about 12 yrs old it was in excellent condition, practically new looking. Both of our trailers were wooden floors.
So i wouldnt diss a wooden floor if i was getting another. Our first trailer was an old rear only load box but it was in good working order and did the job and was safe.

Thanks for info back so far. Not sure about fiber glass as that tends to degrade over the years but have not come in close contact with box of that type to see if the same happens.

I have bought a stable mat and fit it to my trailer floor (aluminum) with no problems whatsoever. Wooden floors make trailers so heavuy which restricts your choice of towing vehicle. If thats not a problem then as long as the floor is sound cant see it matters!
