Did prelim 18 at a local show on sunday, and i was feeling rather confident, i went in, tarmi was listening very well, did a lovely test, without jumping out of the boards ;D And thought we did extremely well! However i did not get placed and got a low percetnage, normally it would bot bother me, i would take the sheet and practice what i did not do so well on. But because tarmi was so good and did everthing i said, i feel i let her down, as it was fault, however, i got low scores on each move but nice comments, so i do not understand it totally...what it said for entry...5 v straight good rythem anyway..i got that out

Try not to get to down hearted unfortunately it sounds like your fellow competitors just rode better tests. Your pic looks lovely and as long as you were pleased with how the test went then dont worry. The thing is with dressage you can never tell the level of rider and horse before you get in and im pretty sure that sometimes people enter that shouldn't. My old horse (who is loaned out now) did the test of his life and never got placed but im pretty sure it was cos i was at a huge event and the class was massive, like 40 in it, and some definately looked like they shouldn't be in the class. You know you did a good test so just keep practicing and entering and you'll get there. x

Tarmi, some judges mark harder than others, so will give lower scores and you will get a lower percentage even though you know you rode well.
In terms of placings I constantly find myself up against 6 or 7 horses in my prelim test who are using it as a warm up for the novice test... At the moment I dont have a chance of being placed because these horses are do much further on in their training than Brave. When I start matching their scores or being placed I think I will know its time to move up a grade.

Same as Fi- judges do different things, I know riders who dont even bother competing with certain judges, they may not like the horse etc. My trainer judges and I certainly wouldnt do a test with her, she likes warmbloods and is always a bit disparaging about me and Bas, (luckily I have confidence to spare!!!) but your judge may not have liked Ptarmi- you cant please them all!

see, this is where showjumping is better in one way - its like maths i think! you get points for jumping but no comments so its nobodys opinion and in maths the answers are right or wrong. and then in dressage and showing its like english because its all somebodys opinion!! But its still great fun and a great experience to compete in any discipline

its just so subjective but having said that the comments need to match the mark and 'very straight good rhythm' should be more than 5 at the end of the day if you were happy and felt she went well for you then thats what to concentrate on and ignore the marks- on another day it could have been a winner.

Disappointing for you. But the only thing to think about is that she went well for you. Nothing else matters!
