Hi valerie I've just got a horse with bad sweet itch and it breaks my heart watching her scratch like mad. How do you manage scouts sweet itch? my vet reccommended listerine when he last came out but I haven't tried it yet!

Hi Valerie and welcome! I do feel for you and your horse about the sweet itch. I've just spent a very exciting Satruday evening sewing up one of my horse's boett blankets! I took a quick look at the neem and I'm going to give that a try on his tail as the litlle b*ggers always manage to get that. I don't think I'll ever stop covering him up now, though. It's too risky.

hI vALERIE and welcome. Horse Welfare Trust is currently funding research into a vaccine for sweet itch, theyve isolated the cause (saliva in the midge) so sorting a vaccine is just arounfd the corner. Hope it isnt too expensive when they do bring it out as it will stop lots of horses going through misery!
