tomorrow night I should be competeting against my instructor...! Now that just isn't fair I say should because I checked my times and I paid for 2 classes and only can see my name down for the 1st which is the restricted section and not the 2nd class which is an open class. So I have to check that out. Obviously my instructor is in the open one. She takes horses in for re-schooling and dressage training but I think we can safely say I wouldn't be winning class 2 (even if I confirm I am in it)

Excellent!! Wouldn't it so cool if you got a better mark than her! Not impossible, you may well have the better horse with nicer paces etc I have to say Fi - I totally admire you - its showjumping one week, eventing another, and now dressage- not to mention the hacking and lessons and schooling- !!!

thanks Duckles, but I am doing this at a Riding club level so nothing very serious, and if it all goes pear shaped the only two things that usually end up sore are my ego and my backside.

You're right : eeeeeek!!!!
But I'm surprised: here (at club level) you have to compete in your 'proper' class, ie according to which Galop exam you have, unless you go HC with a young horse etc.

It seems very strict in France Rac! Here its about the horse- not the rider so a top rider can do a novice with a young horse. Although it can be daunting doing a class when you know a 'name' is warming up in the practice area with you!! Fi- dont be put off- even the best trainers/riders can be different in competitions. Good luck with your classes.

hahah i can relate to what Brig said! it is so daunting when your in a warm up ring with a past olympian.. and I just so hapened to land on my bottom at the time! needless to say i did not even come close to placing at the comp BUT i rekon it is heaps fun riding against your coach! one of my coache's other students beat him once! it was very interesting to watch!so good luck and enjoy the experiance! ;D
