I took Brave to his 1st busy schooling show last night. When I have taken him jumping before I have deliberately taken him to clear round classes early in the morning so it was quiet.
Last night was his 1st full on jumping show with hundreds of kids milling about and a gallery full of people. Initially he didn't want to go into the arena so as we had also taken H and Chomps she stood in the corner during our clear round class.
Fence 2 faced the gallery, Brave saw the fence saw the gallery and did a reallt dirty stop which left me hanging over his shoulder, so he spun and spun and spun, somehow I hung on for a bout 10 seconds enought for me to be able to time me less than gracious drop to the floor to avoid the jump.
got back on and cat leaped the jump and then managed to continue around the rest of the course, jumping each of the oxers as though they were 90cm high not 50cm.
2nd clear round and we went clear (yippee)
I then decided to be brave a put him into the 65cm class, fence 2 didnt cause any proplems but he was tanking me around and I was struggling to find a balance between control and forwardness. However just after fence 2 he spied the comentary box (1st time he has ever been in there with people comentating) so we went from gallop to halt via a couple of bunny hopping type bucks!
We got organised again and over the double to a big oxer well I am sure we cleared it with at least two feet to spare! I lost my reins and a stirrup as I wasn't expecting a jump quite that big. So I had to circle before the next double to get organised over those again an oxer as the 1st part and lost my reins as Brave over jumped that as well so second element was done hunting stylie.
Got myself together for fence 6, and its just as well as it was 2 planks now this was the 1st time he has ever seen two planks I have jumped him over a plank and a plank and pole and decided at this point it was just too much and refused and was not for going over, rather than making a big issue of it (we were eliminated by this stage) I decided to leave that fence and jump the last two fence 7 no problem fence 8 was another big oxer and after 1 more run out we were over and finished. But OMG not an easy round!
Ooh forgot to mention that they had built each course with every fence at full height with no cross poles anywhere in the round and about 5 oxers (out of 8 fences - 2 of which were doubles)
