Raymond and I went competing on Sunday. After a few prelim disasters (he can't pick up right lead canter and bucks like a bronco as he gets frustrated with his feet!) we decided to take a bit of pressure off and try the Intro A test. We got 63.91% and came 2nd!! More importantly though - the judge said what a lovely willing horse who was obedient in his transitions. As I have spent the best part of 2 years convincing him to go forward off the leg - these were the best comments we could get. Even the lorry breaking down and being stuck for 3 1/2 hours on the way home did not darken my mood!!

Cor, well done, I'm seriously impressed! As for canter lead ... I've got a nag who is a beggar about left lead, so if you find any solutions pass 'em on!

Raymond, that's brilliant well done. You are obvioulsy a very talented pair. Its funny isn't it, how nice remarks on your horse are always more appreciated than anything else. I remember my first dressage test (which of course was a diaster, going out of the ring, getting wrong leads etc) and the Judge had "lovely horse" on it. It kept me totally happy. Now 'lovely willing' horse is some complement especially when it looks like its being a bit of a struggle to get him that way.

fantastic! i just read and replied to your thread on right canter lead, then saw this - brilliant. I have chickened out so far of attempting any sort of dressage test as our canter is so bad, so good on you!

I would recommend the Intro tests without the canter to anyone. I have tried prelim tests as I wanted to get out and compete, but was started to get a bit down because of the canter letting us down every time. My friend suggested the Intro test - and I felt like it was like taking a step backwards. How wrong I was. It has meant that our confidence at competitions has taken a huge leap forward and we can still practice our canter at home.

Id love to have a go at some intros, but one, i dont have the tests, and two, theres no where around me who does them! So, we stick at prelim and novice ... not that were good enough really, its just for a laugh.
