I mentioned this in my other thread about Sancy, but wondered if anyone has any ideas. For a week or so now (maybe longer, can't really pinpoint exactly when it started) she has looked very bloated. Now she is not skinny by any means, but her neck, shoulder and bum aren't carrying large amounts of fat, just normal and I really don't think it is fat. In certain positions you can actually see a faint outline of her ribs and can feel them when you run your hand down her side. She was on very restricted grazing (in now) no hard feed. Last year I had her on the same routine and she looked great on it. However when you look at her from the front, she looks as though she is carrying twins! She is wormed regularly and shares a paddock with Myric who is done at the same time. We poo pick frequently so I don't think it could be worms - will be sending off a worm count however just to be sure. I did tell the vet when I called about her feet but she just said couldn't be sure without seeing her - it is a symptom of Cushings but other than this and the possible lami, there are no other signs of this. I am hoping that it will go down whilst she is in, but if not obviously I will be getting the vet out. Anyone ever come across anything like this before? I will try and get some pics but my memory card is playing up again. New one needed methinks!

With a person, bloating can be a sign of infection or the kidneys (or intestines) not functioning properly. I have no idea with a horse and hope it is none of the above. I know a lot of mares seem to carry weight on their stomach area even if they are losing it elsewhere.
Good luck Scatty, I am sure you must be very worried at the moment with poor Sancy - I hope she will recover completely very soon.

Thanks Duckles. I am worried for her. Have decided to call the vet tomorrow just to be on the safe side..... Wouldn't be able to rest on holiday knowing there may be problems. Everyone who looks at her agrees she doesn't look fat, definately bloated.
