flag race --------go as fast as poss to end of cones, pick up flag, carry to 1st cone , put in hole, turn round cone , and reapeat at next flag
potato race,, same principle cept pick up potato from up turned bucket and put in another bucket ,
musical sticks , like musical chairs cept sticks in big circle and your on a horse
sack race-- gallop up to end , get in sack then hop/ jump/run back leading pony

gymkhana, gymkhana - how exciting! I can't help with the rules I am afraid, all I remember is going fast fast fast and picking stuff up - but how much fun! wish I had a pony.

hehe thanks, cant wait! not sure how we'll manage with potato race - sister is 7 on a 14.1 pony, but our theory is that we have longer legs so can run faster in bending races!! hehe x

I loved pony games! Even done some on an ex-racehorse. I had finnished bending whilst the others had only just got to the top! Magic. Mind you he did get sooo excited that he threw a shoe off and jumped the ring side rope. Used to prctice vaulting on and off whilst out hacking. A local riding club does fun and games at end of year. I have booked H for it on the principal that I still might not be able to box Fal in lorry. If maxie on mainland , which she should be and shifts allow, I'm sure she can have a go on H. Second childhood here I come!

I used to love gymkhana games when I was a kid with my pony Rebel, only problem wa sthat he wouldn't gallop in a straight line so used to always duck out to the left. Sounds great fun - enjoy Zx

Omg! Now I'm trying to suss out flat areas to teach H games. Sad, as I said, defo second childhood. Not quite what her owner envisioned. Never mind, all that work will build up her quarters which is what she needs for the showing line up. Don't think I will ever manage to vault over a horses bum again, for the gretna green race. Did do bare back jumping in foot and mouth year. The local RC found friendly farmer and we did a games day to cheer our selves up. Wish I had taken my camera! Was quite a surprise to see a lot of the kids chicken out of the bare back stuff. Was mostly old f..ts my age or in two cases much older, who braved it. Is it my imagination or is there less stickability about. Ok so there are some really talented young riders out there but last time I was at pony club, a lot of kids fell off. (not thank god in my group) Or is it the fact that gymkanna is not as popular up here? Cos in my opinion it does encourage balance and stickability. What does any one else think?

in our pony club everyone was into eventing and showjumping there was only ever three try out for the dressage team - i was never good enough - nobody wanted to do games so me and mum set up games at home and the ponies loved it. savvy used to fly round them we made up our own as well like the slow canter game and the slow walk game or the extended trot game as well as the usual

Kateflashy, very impressed!!
When there was foot and mouth in 2001, we used to do pony games in our yard as we couldn't hack out or compete. It was great fun. Stupid and childish but fun.
