Today my riding club were competing in a show jumping competition to qualify for national finals at the RDS. Our club, which is tiny and not very active have never put forward a team before. As secretary of the club, I was with them all day and amazingly enough we WON ;D It was really brilliant and unbelievable and exciting and all the rest. I used to hang around with a show jumper a few years back and was pretty used to putting up jumps for him and tacking, untacking, cooling off etc. So I got back into that role really quickly and was doing it all day for the team. While I would love to be show jumping myself at the moment, this was the next best thing, it was really amazing and none of us can believe it.

Thanks everyone- it really was a turn up for the books as we were the underdogs. I was kind of the manager (as well as groom and dogsbody) and I was really proud of them because not only had we clear rounds but the riding was all lovely and calm with no yanking or pulling or heads at right angles.

Never underestimate the value of a good support team, (even if it is just one person!)
Cheers, Midori

I LOVE stories like this! Well done, you underdogs!!! Teamwork is everything ;D Years ago, when I liked competing, we took a bunch of club horses up to a big SJ competition near Orange. We were all a bit scruffy and the nags were a motley crew. We were a bit fazed to see the French Legionnaires had also fielded a team. They were utterly magnificent: their huge horses gleamed, their tall leather boots shone like mirrors, their uniforms were immaculate. And there we were in our white Tshirts and old jods, on hairy little horses. The first Legionnaire pranced in .... sauntered up to the first jump .... and refused. And refused. And refused and was eliminated. How we roared! And how we crowed later when we scooped most of the cups!! ;D ;D

Racaille, excuse my ignorance but who and what are the French Legionnaires- they're not the foreign legion, are they? Are they related to the Samaurs? Glad you scruffs thrashed them anyway.

I love stories like this. It'd be good to base a book on, rags to riches style
