do you think kalib (16.3hh, shire x) will be safe doing half passes etc? cos he is really quite lazy in his hindquarters, i just worry about him tripping! any exercises i can do to get him picking up his blooming back feet?! cheers xxx

my ali does advanced dressage and he's 18hh dutch so size shouldnt be an issue best way of getting feet to be picked up is trotting poles placed at random so he has to step over them

Hi Sissa as Kate says size is rarely an issue for doing dressage but what stage is your horse at now?? Can he do leg yield? As then you would know if he trips up and leg yield is an exercise that you would do well before half pass- Brig

Personally I'd work on shoulder in, travers, leg yeild etc before moving onto half pass, make sure he's doing then correctly
If he's tripping it probably means he's on the forehand, so lots of transitions (hundreds if necessary) to get him working through from behind.
