Well today we decided that we would practice loading with Patrick and go down the road for a hack. His owner had warned me that he could be naughty to load so I was prepared for the worst...
S brought the lorry down the drive and I got Mr P ready. He saw the box....he stopped.....he snorted.....he dug his heels in! We got as far as the ramp then nope, not going on that He then pulled away and trotted off towards Sancy & Myric in the field - I was running at the end of the leadrope! At this point YO decides it will be hilarious to get the camcorder out!!
After a couple more attempts at the botton of the ramp he walks up without a care in the world BUT... no sooner is one of the gates shut when he decides 'I'm coming out' S wenty flying off the back of the ramp, I went flying off the side of the ramp (got the scrapes to prove it!!) and YO's ex- who was helping by holding the food bucket - well I've never seen a man run so fast - all this YO caught on camera so you may see us on You've been Framed in a few weeks
Caught the elusive P and guess what. He walked straight up and stood perfectly. Once again I think this horse has found a way to entertain himself - human scatterball!
So ramp up and off we go. Only a 20 min drive away. Arrived unscathed and P walked off like a lamb. Tacked up and had such a nice ride. It was an hour of pure tracks - no road work at all. Patrick really enjoyed himself. He's definately getting more lively now he's putting on condition (not in a bad way, just more interested in things) and he was really keen the whole way round. Bless him he's sooo good - at one point we had to walk under one of those big crop water sprayers - not a problem at all. In fact it was quite nice and cooling. And then at the end of the ride we walked into a Ford and had a little splash around.
Loading up to go home he walked straight on, no messing. Well I had threatened him that he either goes on and gets a lift home, or its an hour and a half hack back!!
Only down side to the day is I now have sunburnt shoulders
