Right!
After finding that I need to cut off her feathers, pull and plait her main, I have more questions....
> I know I am meant to show in hand in a tweed jacket but I dont have one, but have just won a black one on Ebay. Do you think for a local show I will bo ok to wear it?
> I also have a black hat (advised to wear it as she is in youngstock classes) and was gonna wear black trousers (as she has white legs) and a white shirt with a stock with black shoes/boots. Does that sound ok? Have been told that black hats are really for men but my OH paid a lot of money for it for me on my birthday so I dont want to not wear it - I really like the fit of it etc.
> I havent bitted Daisy yet and dont want to rush it for the sake of a show. Is there an alternative? A leather headcollar or a bitless bridle with in-hand reins?
> If she has an odd sctratch will she get marked down or is it overall appearance?
> She has her gland up at the moment due to the grass - will she get marked down for this?
> I am getting her feet trimmed prior to showing her but if there is the odd chip will this be a marked down offense?
> Does she need to have the little bow things on her headcollar/bridle?
Sorry for all of the questions.....

What youre wearing sounds fine - remember to wear black gloves as well. For local shows it isnt strict but it makes you look good and professional if its to a high standard. I think you can get in hand leading rein things - I should think a leather headcollar will be fine if shes good to lead. I wouldnt go the bitless bridle route if youre not going to end up riding in one - bit of a waste of money to buy it just for shows. You could even just use a normal plain rein. ( I mean as a leading rein!! ) I think for her sort of build, the wee bows would look a bit silly on her so just make everything as plain and as neat as possible. As long as you have her groomed/bathed and nicely trimmed and plaited up you will be fine. Its the experience you are really going for but its nice to win also!

Thanks for that Well I found a tweed jacket today so I am hoping to do a bit of altering... This is before: This is the pattern with red and orange in it: And here is my idea for altering plus I want to add another button so there are 3 (you can only see 1 in the pic as I didnt fasten them, sorry! ) I am really pleased as I searched the net and these coats are going for £140!! It is 100% wool so a nice one... What do you think?

What you are wearing will be fine. You shouldn't be markd down too harshly if she has the odd scratch, horses are horses! As long as her hooves are in good condition then it should be okay (no expert here mind) Plain headcollar will be fine if she is handable in it, don't worry about bitting, because she will be in the youngstock classes. Don't rush that etc. If you are worried about her reactions for any reason, you could always put a green ribbon in her tail because, afterall, she is green and a baby. You should do well. Good luck.

What you are wearing sounds fine. A black hats fine - I think people may be referring to a black bowler for men. For Daisy, at this level a plain headcollar would be finewith a leather lead Re the odd sctratch etc, at locall level you should get away with these things. Obviously if it were a toss up between Daisy and another with no scratches, chips etc then the 'clean' horse would be placed above her but I think you'll find that your competition will be in the same boat. By the bows, do you mean on the ends of the browband? I'm not sure of the 'correct' horsewear for youngstock but if you are using a headcollar then it wouldn't have one anyway. Again at local level you will be fine without. The main thing to remember at your first show is relax, have fun and just enjoy the day. If you get placed it's a bonus, if not ask the judge what you could do to improve (most judges will give you very helpful advice if you ask)It may also be an idea for you to go to a few local shows before you take Daisy (they seem to have started in abundance now). Look at what people are wearing, how the horses are turned out, how they trot up etc (it also gives you an opporunity to check out some of the potential competition ) Best of luck and enjoy.

I think the navy/black on it really improves it - it looks much better!! Oh yes, a green ribbon is a really good idea as well

Wow! Looks like you're a dab hand with a needle. The jacket looks great and the tie goes really well. It's just the thing for that little extra that will make you easily recognisable to the judge.

He is a 3yr old Clydesdale, stands at about 17.1hh now but may end up a bit bigger as I know his bloodlines usually continue growing quite late! He has a lot of filling out to do too...
