Just wondering if you have news of Basil. Fingers are getting cramp from repeated crossing of same. It would be so good to know that he is OK. Big hugs. Wu

Hi Wu
The vets ring every day- he has had two applications to press with the third due to day- he isnt sore yet and is enjoying his 'holiday', theyve put him on bute just in case. When they called yesterday he was in the paddock. Im not going to see him for two reasons- first I get all daft and will cry! (cant help myself I cry at ridiculous things!) and second there's a Waitrose just round the corner from the vets and I will go in and spend a fortune on food we dont need!!! (comfort buying!) I should be able to pick him up on Friday but it seems like ages away. Im so glad I decided on him going to the hospital though- much easier all round. cheers brig x

Sounds like its going well, Friday will be here in a flash. Poor Basil but he seems to be in great hands. I'm impressed at vets ringing you every day, has never happened to me!

Yes me too- they seem really good and the facilities are great- after my experiences last year when i lost Truckle due to a mis-diagnosis I am very wary of vets and although these may be a bit expensive they are good so far!

That is really good news. He seems to be getting the very best of care, and with vets that care about you too. I think that you were dead right to let the experts take care of him and it all seems to be going well.
I bet he will be so pleased to see you on Friday.
Waitrose is scary. I hate supermarkets, but in Waitrose I shop like there is no tomorrow. Luckily for my bank balance, the nearest one is miles away.
Wishing you both a joyous reunion on Friday. Also a happy convalescence for Basil.

Hi Haffy, Swanbridge at Willerby, they have really good facilities and so far so good. Easy to get to also, just straight down M62/A63 to Humber Bridge then left turn, no silly turns or roads with trailer etc Brig

It's in Rutland...not too far from Melton Mowbray - They specialise in lameness I was told so my vets referred me there. Amazing place! www.oakhamvethospital.co.uk/

I think you are collecting him today. How is he? Is everything gone? I'm sure it must be great to have him home.

Yes . He's home and he looked really pleased to see me, I was over the moon seeing him- its been horrible not having him home but its gone quite quickly. The stuff was put on for the final time just before we boxed up, it doesnt look any different but over the next two to three weeks it should go black as the roots die off then fall off.
When he got back to his field, he put his tail straight up in the air and was off- it was lovely to see him so pleased. Will not do anything this weekend as he has four days worth of painkillers so dont want to aggravate anything.
Ill post some pictures in a couple of weeks to show the difference.
One thing that I found quite interesting though- he looked a bit rough-coat didnt look as smooth and he had loads of little nicks and bites. Im fussy I think as I wrap him in cotton wool but however good the care- no one looks after your horse like you do!
Does anyone else feel like that?
Thanks to everyone who as shown an interest- it certainly makes it easier being able to post concerns and worries and receive support.
thanks brig x
