Greetings, folks I need colic surgery!! I've been having monstrous gut pains since Christmas, and finally went to the GP who sent me to swallow the camera. Very nasty. Don't go there. But the camera said that I have an impacted gut. Well, it said malignant tumour at the exit of the stomach. The Consultant Surgeon explained very seriously that he would cut it all out and join up the bowel. I say "Wow, that is colic surgery!! My vet can do that!!" That got me about 1.5 out of 10. He asked if I had any questions. Yes. How soon after colic surgery can I ride my Travers? CS looked at me as though I was totally out of it. About 6 weeks, he said finally, through gritted teeth So I am too scared to ask my other question. Which is ... If I need chemo and my hair falls out, should I put my present hat on over the wig, or get a smaller hat In my opinion, these guys take themselves far too seriously. foul smelling poopy happens. Life goes on. Love to you all. Wu

LOL! I can just imagine the doc's face!
Good Luck with the surgery and hope you get better quickly - Travers will be waiting - in fact I bet a little bit of riding would help you to recover quicker! I was talking to a woman who smashed her leg and dislocated her ankle and continued riding with it in plaster - she even managed to mount and dismount with one leg! Then the doc said that she didnt even need physio cos of her riding!

i know someone who still competed at BSJA with one arm in plaster and the other recovering from dislocating both her elbow and shoulder after a nasty fall!

Wu, I take my hat off to you!!!! Luuuuurve your attitude!!! I'm very sorry you have to have colic surgery but you sound very motivated to get back on Travers. Personally I'd use it as an excuse to get a new helmet - you could splash out on one of those really fancy jobbies!

Oh Wu, at least they put the camera down your mouth! Amazing what they can do with a needle and thread these days and youll be soon stitched up and back on Travers before you know it. Have you told him he is having a holiday?

Thanks guys!! Yes, I am with Brig and Maxi. Down with the camera is much better than up. I'm beginning to see all sorts of possibilities here, however. New hat, new saddle, world cruise to recuperate, new trailer for Travers (to compensate for me not being on call 24/7). CT scan tomorrow. I'm so grateful for all your good wishes Wu

I would have loved to have seen the doc's face! Why not ask the vet if he can do you instead, bet the grubs better at vet hospital! Love and best wishes and like everyone else I think your attitude towards this is inspiring Ps def agree with racaille...you deserve a new hat and travers deserves whatever he dosen't need but would like

Wu - how goes it? There's a fantabulous bling helmet I've seen somewhere but it might not be right for classical dressage .... now what do you think about a snowy white real sheepskin dressage numnah? Doesn't that appeal? ??

Wu, with such a fantastic attitude, you'll be on the mend in no time! I love the way you handled your doctor. I hope you didn't mention how much it would cost if the vet were doing it.... All the best. I can just imagine you on that cruise in all your new horsey gear.

Hope scan went ok. I got given a bling brow band for xmas and that set me thinking, you could do a Gok Wahn and go to a haberdashers for sparkley bits and customise your own hat/hat cover. Would give you something to do when no riding is in force and there is nothing like a bit of bling to cheer a body up. Unless it is serious retail therapy of course!
