Had a good day yesterday at the jumping. Brave was a star considering it was his first ever course consisting of more than 4 jumps and 1st time he was jumping in an indoor arena, and the jumps were bigger than 30-40cm and were in fact about 60cm
The course conisted of 9 jumps two of which were doubles so 11 jumps in total and there were 4 oxers a number of ladders but not too many other fillers.
I decided to treat this as schooling ratehr than competition as it was a clear round class and we were on 1st with only 2 other horses warming up. The 1st time round Brave refused every oxer (which he hadn't seen before yesterday- due to my limited number of jumps) and the the 1st ladder filler. But 2nd time round we flew and cleared everything with just an occasional wobble when he was unsure. but we went clear and wone our 1st ever jumping rosette.
Then it was home swap horses, after getting Chompy cleaned up and back to the show for the afternoon session. Chomps was flying (one of the benefits of spring grass) and in the 65cm class we had one pole down when he spent to much time looking at a plant and not the fence.
75cm class he came second beaten by one very nippy pony. and a pole down in the 85cm class at the second part of a triple because he was struggling to make the horse stride (as his legs are only short) and put in a short one and just got too deep into it. plus he was also starting to get tired as it was his 4th round.
Then to top off the day he decided he wouldn't go into the trailer and no amount of bribery was going to make him. He simple stood with his front two feet on the ramp for 45 minutes, pressure from behind would make him go backwards and when I tried a bit more pressure from the front he flung his head up and I sliced a reasonably sized chunk out of my right forefinger (right on the knuckle) on the edge of the trailer where a bit of rubber he come away OUCH! So off to the doctors today for a tetnus booster.
Eventually we borrowed a bucket and got him in that way as I had packed treats and his favourite garlic lick which usually works for getting him in when he is feeling like being a bit difficult.
