Sometimes I think I am the dumbest person in the universe. I will miss the best TREC in the world this Sunday - at a nearby village, one I do every year, really fun and friendly - because I invited people to stay without double-checking the date. They are only here for two and a half days so I really can't slope off for a whole day. However, I've offered to tow some horses there and back for our team as the club truck in on blocks so I will be rubbing salt into my wounds, seeing all the regulars .... sigh .... I deserve this because I'm a prat .....

ive got it, take the horses as planned but all of a sudden a tragedy occurs and someone is taken mysteriously ill/has an accident and it would be cruel to leave the horse riderless and as you are the only person not riding it is essential that you do the honor of riding the horse (your guests/OH/kids neednt know it is your own..........) and bingo you get to go regardless of the guests!!!!!

Give someone a quick kick in the shins so they can't ride and then pop up and say "you've brought you're horse all this way would be a shame for he/she not to do it" or just take paco and accidently palm the visitors off on your OH

yeah I am with fi- get outrageously drunk the first night and cry and wail at the unfairness of it all- then tell them that since you cant go you have arranged a day of visting ancient burial grounds where alcohol is banned and watch them say ' ach no Rac you MUST go to your trec and we shall go to the vineyards'

The burial ground plan sounds good, or graveyard rubbing! they will be pushing you out of the door!

Well, I came up with a kind of compromise by taking them along to watch our teenagers not cover themselves with glory during the PTV! There was a nasty contre-haut (jump up) that freaked a lot of the horses (I can't think why, especially) and one of ours refused point blank to cross the wooden bridge. One of the girls took a nasty tumble - a double forward roll and there was an initial panic about her neck, but she was fine eventually. She was riding a novice horsey and got herself very very stressed, forgot the course, panicked and the mare took off, jumping back down the step and the poor girl was lost. My non-horsey friends thought I had jinxed her as I said 'she's coming off' long before it was apparent to them, but you could see it happening quite clearly. Despite the shambles our team came in sixth, which was a bit of a miracle, especially as the above mare had done both the parts of the slow canter/fast walk test in full-blown gallop. Ho hum. Looks like I have to buy a BP now though as everyone had one on so it's obviously obligatory this year. Rats.

Atleast you got to see it I know you would have preferred to be IN it, but atleast you didn't miss out completely Sorry to hear about the girl that fell off, is she ok? Was your teenager involved or just teeneagers from your club?

Yeah, it was better than nothing! And we did have a wonderful picnic under a shady tree above the PTV so had a good view of the shambles!
The girl who fell off was OK later that day although she was sensibly being taken for an X-ray. I think she was pretty shocked and humiliated rather than hurt but I must say the way she rolled end-over-end twice gave me - and a lot of others - the shivers.
My teenager wasn't involved - like me she was on guest duty - it was just our club teenagers. They need a bit more practice on TREC techniques, methinks, but they enjoyed themselves, which is the main thing. ;D;D

I've just got a body protector but haven't rode in it as I feel so stiff so I just wear it for ground work to try and get used to it
