Random thread I know, but I've noticed since not riding that my back hurts much more when I do nothing. I think that riding and sitting up properly helps keep it supple and pain-free, but now I'm not riding (and not even doing anything horsey either!) it kills! I've started consciously sitting up properly (as opposed to slouching) and it doesn't half make my muscles ache! I must have really bad posture normally if just sitting up properly hurts me!!! Anywho, randomness over now

I have to ride or my right hip is agony, on hols recently I noticed how too much lolling around caused me discomfort but as soon as I hit the saddle again it disappeared! Try not to over arch your back in sitting up straight Spotti as that can cause as much trouble!

I have to ride or my right hip is agony Well Brig, it's as good an excuse to spend hours away/cash as I've ever heard!

I don't force myself to sit up straight, I just consciously try not to slouch (and sit as if riding as often as possible). Brig - that is a genius idea! I never realised how much riding made my back better until now (having never had a long enough period of riding to notice the difference) but now I'm not even mucking out/walking in-hand/dragging water buckets everywhere, it's killing me! I try my hardest to strengthen and contract my stomach muscles as often as possible (to support my back) and that really does help, but I do that anyway when riding AND I get the relaxing swaying movement of my hips...hmm...might have to persuade someone to lend me their pony for a couple of hours a week if Faith's still not up for anything when I get back from uni at the end of may... ("but my back hurts if I don't ride!" - I suppose its as good an excuse as any GOT to be worth a try lol)

Well thanks! I was slouching quite comfortably at my desk when I came across this and now I've been guilt tripped into sitting up straight! I know it's better for me but old habits die hard! **modified because I can't sit up straight and spell at the same time.
