It's a destktop and the noise does seem to be coming from the side so probably is the fan! Jadk, I think I would be nervous of buying a computer from ebay but it sounds like you got a real bargain.

I had desktop that did it and I left it with the result it died and nearly took all my files with it so maybe get it looked at sooner rather than later! and back up everything as well.

I reckon it's dust then. I'm looking at it now and it is pretty dusty on the outised at the back so I'll bet there's a load inside. iIve been rather lax with this one and I haven't got anything backed up.

Better spend this evening doing that.

I would bet a months wage that that you are right... the fix it man laughed and I felt very embarrassed when he opened my pc und showed me the insides!! They have a lil hoover in the front of thwir shop as it is a common problem!
