Had a lesson today went really well Peter really going forward nicely. The thing is he is looking a little threadbare where his saddle rests on his back. He was fully clipped and coat is coming back slowly, RI suggested changing saddle cloth for nuumed high wither numnah, also anyone got any tips on tick removal he keeps getting them in his new field.

Numnah wise I have a Nuumed pure wool and a Cottage Craft wool one. Both are excellent and AJ has never had any rubs. The Nuumed is thicker than the CC so depends on the fit of your saddle which to go for but for me it has to be wool. Re: ticks I've never had the problem but I know you can get tick removal tweezers to do the job eefectively as you don't want to leave the mouth parts behind Zx

I really love the sheepskin/wool ones too. I have a Mattes wool numnah for everyday use and a pure sheepskin one for 'special' days. When I do long distance especially in the summer I put a cotton saddle pad underneath the numnah as it is easier to wash.

re ticks smother them with vaseline or other wayterproof substance and they drop off as they breathe through their bums with their heads buried in the skin. if using tweezers make sure you get all the mouth parts out otherwise infection can occur and the best way to to that is to unscrew them (anticlockwise I think) as they actually screw themselves through the skin.

I have cottage craft and Nagrags numnahs. I defo think the Nagrags ones are better and more hardwearing and they are also very soft without giving too much Cottage craft ones tend to go stiff after a while though never had a nuumed one but intend on investing in one on payday

Bit of a hijack here but do you think that its the numnah or the saddle thats rubbing because this is happening to me too i think. Ive just changed numnahs this week and am noticing more of a rub - not sure if its to do with the numnah or because hes getting a bit fat and the saddle is rubbing a bit.

if you need a numnah, then the high wither nu-med half wool one is fabulous...... i could rattle on all day, but wool is the best thing for keeping a horse cool under saddle. Had one (nu-med high wither) for Rocker that lasted over ten years, out of the washing machine the wool bit looked like new, the other side had just faded because of the sun, I binned it when rock died thinking I wouldn't have another horse..
Personally I know that my saddle fits very well but I use a very thin little cotton numnah simply to keep the saddle clean given that my normal rides last at least three hours and we do a bit of cantering/galloping and Debs is a sweaty betty!!!!!! When I get some cash I will get another nu-med wool one though.

I have a requisite one from Robbies and a shires one. I also have a poly pad but have hardly used it.
