Hi everyone, a newish horsy friend has just given me a bag of goodies in odds and ends of tack. What are peoples thoughts on safety stirrups, i now have two pairs! Also have been borrowing reins and a bit what do you think of leather reinss i have been using continental also i now have an eggbutt style french link is it ok to change the loose ring one over, or even try an eggbutt snaffle, so many choices. I have been oiling tack for the last hour, horsy fun at home too!

Safety stirrups - good; but prefer the bent leg ones cos I think they look better. Leather reins - dont like them as theyre too slippy but they look good for showing etc. I think you could try the eggbutt if its the same size mouthpiece as the loose ring and see which he goes better in although it will take time for him to get used to it - from your posts he sounds like hes doing well so I wouldnt bother faffing about with bits. I cleaned and oiled my tack last Sunday - I actually dont mind tack cleaning too much, its quite satisfying having nice clean, soft tack. Dad has a big fire heater thingy so I go into the garage in winter to clean cos its nice and warm

He had the new bit in today-no problem your'e right about the leather reins slippy with gloves on need to buy some new ones. I am going to try the safety stirrups then i think. His tack came up lovely after a good soak in the oil. Saddler coming in the morning yippee

sounds like a great back of goodies but leather reins only really good for showing as they get very slippery when wet (oo-er missus)...
