;D ;D All any of you who have patiently read my long moans about JB and all his difficulties, you will know that he has been more or less out of work for 2 years getting all sorts of treatments for his back etc. In addition I haven't jumped at all for about 15 months.
Well since January I have being making a real effort to get him back into work and fitness and despite all the weather, work, family, life and sickness can throw at me, I am getting there.
Today I jumped a cross pole with him. No big deal you will all say but it was a big deal for me and if any of us have had the experience of trying to jump a horse who is telling you that he is in agony (ie racing, stopping, humping, bucking, ditthering etc) - you will understand. He just went forward to the jump, strongly but calmly, did a really big but very straight jump and landed on the correct leg (which used to be a problem) and cantered smoothly away. I was overjoyed. I jumped off and just hugged him. Of course next time, I will do loads of jumps but today I just wanted him to feel he had been brilliant, which he had. I was just so happy ;D ;D ;D

Well Done! I think you did exactly the right thing stopping on a good note he will know he has done well, and it goes to show show he was just trying to tell you something when he misbehaved initially

Well done, well done, well done! I'm glad all your hard work has paid off.
Can't relate to the jumping personally but my daughters pony was really nappy and refused a lotwhen she first started jumping him.
She took him to a SJ comp a couple of weeks ago and was so pleased that he just behaved (one tiny refusal and there was a pony-eating filler that he hadn't seen before). She did clear round and minimus and was just so pleased that he was calm and happy - that was a result for her. Oh and he got a turnip as a treat when he'd done and was well chuffed!
Glad it's coming right for you.

Thanks everyone, I am delighted. I was full of plans to do more yesterday but had to go to a funeral instead (don't worry not anyone really close but still a sad time) Yes, Spotti, jumped in the new saddle, I am hoping it is the last piece in the jigsaw puzzle. I have to say as a word of warning to you for when you get your new one, - it may feel really uncomfortable at first. I always find new saddles a bit stiff but the treeless are even more so when new, so don't be put off if this is the case. They soon soften up and mine is now lovely. Chiro is coming out in a few weeks for his check up so I am hoping for a clean bill of health. I know its early days yet but I am begining to make little plans- as you do.

Racaille- thanks but I went out this evening and he was seriously lame, the farrier came down (very decently as it was Friday evening) and it was an abcess. Typical!!! Becca and Flea- photos will be forthcoming if ever I actually get to do anything!!!!

Duckles this was great to read- gave a warm little glow as I know how hard and long the battle has been but I think you may have won the war- the latest little skirmish will soon be over.

Duckles - I don't know about the Solutions saddles, but the freeforms mould to the shape of the horse and rider as the foam warms up, so I imagine when I first get on that it would be stiff, but the more we do, the better it will get (and I guess you've proved that with yours!) I think I am probably one of the people here who can COMPLETELY relate to your situation with JB, what with Faith being an injury-attracter!!! It's good that he's finally on the mend though now (it gives me hope that maybe one day Faith will be too ), fingers crossed for an 'all clear' from the chiro How did he cope with the abscess?

Thanks Spotti- I actually wasn't going to post on this(as its like an old record) but as you've asked, abcess cleared but he's injured his back!!! How, I dont know, possibley he was over active in the field after his box rest!! I've been on to the Chiro but don't know when he will be down. I don't think he has put his pelvis out- it seems more like muscle or ligament but I don't really know. It seems quite bad. YES, unfortunately I think you can COMPLETELY relate to my situation- hopefully we will both have sound horses SOON. I know you are waiting for chiro as well. Perhaps in a few months - we can be posting about all the fun things we are doing!! (fingers crossed)

Oh duckles, that sucks And we were going to go dressaging!! Well, maybe you will still get to go...suppose it all depends on the chiro. Princess had the chiro out and she had a week off work - well a couple of days and then a small hack and then back to work again the next week. She was out in her shoulder, poll and pelvis!

Thanks Racaille, chiro said his pelvis was out and he had a few other problems, back, poll, shoulders. Just the usual. I'm coming to the conclusion this isn't going to change ( 7 chiro visits in just over a year isn't normal - and that's not including absesses and sarcoids) but I'm not ruling out a miricle!!! And if it happens and I can start doing ordinary things again for longer than a week or two - I'll post on it.
