I rode Peter yesterday in an empty school-bliss he was good but i find it hard thinking of different moves to do and was wondering what other people do to warm up and school their horses. I was having trouble getting a nice halt and in my lessons RI will say the slightest thing for me to change and he instantly improves, i don't have the same success on my own does he know RI is God?!

as racaille says there is a section on warming up in the workout section! ask you RI if she can write down some lesson plans for you so that you are always working towards a goal rather than aimlessly wandering- I am guilty of that if I dont have a session goal for each schooling session!! When its not working try and work out what you did differently from the times you get a good one- that makes a thinking rider rather than jujst being able to follow instructions. these are good books for working out some exercises to introduce into your schooling www.amazon.co.uk/101-Schooling-Exercises-Horse-Rider/dp/0715329758/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1235496253&sr=8-1

Dont try anything too challenging when working alone- just aim to consolidate what you have done and aim to do the new stuff with your RI. the reason the horses seem to go better when we are having lessons is I believe that someone from the ground is objective and can spot the little adjustment that can make all the difference to the horse.

Thanks that is good advice, i know my limitations a bit more now, learning all the time. Going for a nice hack tomorrow to chill out. He always does what i ask bless him it is just so much harder getting good work out of him on my own without RI fine tuning. She nags me and it works!

i'm the same- write down everything your RI says and all the excersices she uses immediately after the lesson and repeat them yourself at a later date- i forget them if i dont write them all down.
for working in an outline, build up the muscles gradually and it will become a lot easier! to start, sox and i would do one or two strides of slightly rounded walk, and after a month or so we're now doing a full lap or the field rounded, it just takes time and an awful lot of patience! xx
