Chomps has a bit of mud fever which despite my best efforts is not getting better (but not getting worse either)
I was thinking about getting some turn out chaps for him, does anyone use them and are they any good?

I think Zara uses some on AJ and she seems dead pleased with them...

I use the equilibrium clsoe contact chaps and think they are fab! They go right under the heel and over the coronary band so the legs stay completely mud free!
Infact I have a pair of size 5's I bought for Zoons back legs and they were too big and typical me I never bothered to return them. So if you measure chomps up and they fit your are welcome to them

Hi, as Spotti has said I do have turnout chaps for AJ but I don't use them much. I have Equilibrium close contact chaps and althought they are excellent, they are very expensive and a pain to dry every day ( really need 2 sets). If Chomps already has MF then you shouldn't put turnout chaps on over it. Does Chomps come in at night? TO chaps can only be worn for a max of 12 hrs at a time. If he comes in then I would use stable wraps, I've got Thermatex ones and AJ hasn't had MF since I started using them. Also to treaqt it i swear by "Aromaheal" amazing stuff and cleared his MF in days good luck MF is a pain Zx

Zara, I tried the aromaheal stuff with him but he seems to have a bad reaction to it, wherever I put it on him he goes really red and twice as sore, after 2 or 3 days of using Aromaheal on him, the mud fever sores had lost their scabs but constantly weeped and bled and the healthy skin in between the sores started to go very very very red and look sore to so I've stopped using it. Its is back to antiseptic cream and barrier cream during the day and stable bandages at night. May invest in the thermatex boots though as would be much easier than bandages.

fimacg that is worrying about the Aromaheal, never heard of a horse being allergic to it but there are always exceptions to the rule! i do like the wraps and they are very easy to use - good luck Zx

The thrmatex chaps are brill! my friend used them. If you like i will send you some pig oil and sulpher to try? or you could get some off ebay or something. know i bang on about it but i love the stuff. wash his legs in hibiscrub then try them off as best possible (over night i wraps maybe) then coat the legs in the solution, maybe keep him in a day or two if they are super sore to give it a beter chance. keratex also to a sort of mudfever talc which my friend uses but dont know if it is to heal or prevent.
