Hacked out ON MY OWN!
Zoon needed a smack on the shoulder outside the gate - he didn't stop but I could feel it coming. Think it was enough to shock him forwards as I never smack him on the shoulder. But if I lose the contact on either side he used that as an opportunity to spin so couldn't smack him behind my leg.
He snorted all the way round, but didn't even spook at anything; although he did have a good look there weren't any super leaps in the air!
And more importantly NO REARING!
My just to bring myself down a peg or two - it was only a 5 min trip round the block that we've walked in hand a few times, but not for a few weeks and we went the opposite way round today!
Very proud of my non-rearing horse!

Now I'm hoping we can do the same tomorrow although it may end at the gate with a big fat vertical rear like it normally does!
I might stick a pair of draw reins (oh no! I said the naughty word!) on him - I'll pop them on loose so they only come into play if he throws his head up to rear or maybe pop a bungie on in a similar fashion (although the bungie will have a contacnt downwards pull on his mouth) Thinking of them as a makeshift harbridge as I don't have one!

Go Zoon, what a change from just a few weeks ago when you thought you may have to put him to sleep. I bet you are so glad you gave him every chance. Does he still have wierd moments about being touched or is he back to normal completely?
I swear by the bungie as an anti-rear device, but draw reins do do the same trick. I used to have a pair when weaning myself and chomps off the bungie that I used to put on tie a knot in and leave on his neck so that they were there if I needed them but not doing anything if I didn't.

He can still have a paddy if you wind him up (keep prodding him the the right place and he'll go back to how he was - Pete the vet did that today!) But normally be just has a quick twitch twitch or a swish of the tail and doesn't do anything else. So he is a billion tiems better but not perfect. Pete think we should try a magnetic rug and is going to contact as physio osteopath type person (not sure which!) to come and see him. We don't want anyone who uses machines like my old chiro as this is possibly what started it, so this new lady is completely hands on manipulation and massage.
Will have to convince insurance to pay out for a magnetic rug now!

sorry ptarmi - no one will believe that one! Once he's fit and doing stuff I'll take some pics off him being an ass and you'll very quickly retract that statement!
