It was worming day for Triangle today and he is a little b*stard. He's only a shettie, but a big one and 200kg of pure evil. As soon as he saw the syringe he was rearing - really standing up, not just pulling away - and fighting. There was no way we could have got a twitch on him even if we'd wanted to. So I took a risk that his greed was greater than his hatred of worming paste and smeared it on a slice of bread, made a sandwich of it ..... and no, he didnt spit it out, he just wolfed it down. All that fighting when I could have made it easy for all of us.

Princess was a nightmare the last time we wormed her - she did a mini rear in the stable and kept running round the stable away from us even though we tried a headcollar she just dragged us round too! It was even apple flavoured! And then we tried putting it in an apple but she knew!! In the end we mixed it with chaff and she ate it thank god!

if you're putting it in tea do it over two feeds- that way the taste is less strong and theyre less likely to realise! shame to waste all that feed and wormer if they refuse it!
and be careful if you do that with equest pramox- sox will lick the bowl clean with equest but one sniff of the pramox and she wont go near the stuff! x

a trick I was told for a horse that recognised the syringe was to clean it out fill it with apple sauce and then 'worm' them every day with the apple sauce until they see the syringe as a treat... then after normal worming give them the apple sauce syringe again immediately.
luckily all three of mine just accept with with a minor head toss so have never had to go down that route

I've heard that too Fi but with Honey, I tried it once but Murph though Honey was poison too. He won't eat anything that is funny smelling/different so he has to be pinned in a corner and you have to try and get it down him quick without him seeing it coming and avoiding the flying front legs...if the first attempt fails I usually ahve to wait till later/next day as he is gunning to have you if he thinks your going to have another attempt and isn't against kicking . Harry is brilliant, you don't even have to catch him...he never refuses food!!

Murph thought honey was poison - LOL Like both the idea of that and the apple sauce but it does presuppose that you can get near the nag with a syringe first ... evil Triangle takes one look and becomes the very devil

Well Faith gobbled her wormer-tea straight down and only left a tiny bit because she heard me say the 'W' word to my sister over the phone (I was across the other side of the the yard and ws whispering, but as soon as the 'W' word was said, she stuck her head up, ears pricked and refused point blank to eat anymore - even when I stuck a load of carrots in it...she never refuses carrots!)
I tihnk I'll be sticking it in her food from now in as its just soooooooooooo much easier! Good idea about putting it in over 2 feeds though Abi ;D
