AJ has spavins in both hocks, R > L. He has a joint supplement that currently includes chondroitin, glucosamine and MSM but he also has 20mls / day of Devil's Claw liquid. All brands are basically the same and i have used "No Bute", Wendell's Devil's Claw and NAF Devil's Claw. I have never noticed any difference between them apart from a £1 or so in price. I swear by it and if he doesn't have it I do notice a difference and he is certainly less "clicky" and stiff on it. There may be some who think it holds health risks; so does Bute. Personally I belive that if i can keep my boy happy and pain free but i may shorten his life then that is worth it rather than reducing him to a crippled and unhappy field ornament for the rest of his life. Hope this is useful Zx

Thanks Zara- very useful. The Chiro suggested I put JB on No BUte but then said no need as he is on cortaflex. But even with the cortaflex he can be 'stuffy' (if you know what I mean) some days and I wondered if the No BUte would help. I agree with you fully about the 'crippled and unhappy field ornament'! Thanks also for the advice on the different brands- nice to know the cheapest is as good as the others! Oh the joys of being a horse owner!

Mention of cortaflex reminds me that we used that on connie as well but it wasnt worth it. Only doing her a wee bit of good for the price of it.

Thanks Flea- that's interesting- I have been told so often how wonderful COrtaflex is. I suppose it comes down to what is really the matter with them. ANyway, I bought the bute less today and I'll see how it goes.

Thanks Zara- I will remember that. Have to say I haven't noticed any difference with the Cortaflex myself! I have started on the BUteless and I suppose I should notice something after a week or so. I'm glad I'm not the only one with a crock of a horse- ha ha!

I think it really do think it depends on what is wrong in the first place as to what helps, if its from the joints the an all round joint supplement may help to improve joint fluid productivity such as Condriotion,MSM and Glucosamine, or id muscular then a bit of McTimmoney or something else then maybe a product such as no bute at the end of the day as with us humans one product will work better for one person that it will for another, thus I think much is trial and error...
