Well today I had a lovely hack. I have always considered JB a brilliant hack as I was used to horses who won't hack out alone or nap at the gate and everything or who are dangerous in traffic. In fact he is very sharp and quite spooky but he doesn't nap(at the gate) and is wonderful in traffic so that rates him 'perfect' in my eyes. I wish I had some photos. The weather was very cold and windsweapt but the roads WEREN"T ICEY so I could go out. It was wonderful. Of course there were loads of puddles that provoked starts and stops and a plastic bag that caused a rein back that a dressage diva would be proud of but it was all wonderful. ;D ;D ;D
I am one of those annoying people who always have to be doing things so I always school on hacks- simple stuff, ley yielding, TOF, halting, improving my balance or sitting trot or whatever. (Loads of free rein as well) I noticed that my halts always had the right foot trailing a tad. So I started bringing my right seat bone forward a bit. It felt crooked but I think it actually might be making me straighter. The halts were better and my shoulder less sore so I have been trying to keep this up.
I know this is not very exciting but it was really a lovely morning.

No, thats why i like hacking - just a loose rein and a plod along and a gossip. Sometimes when out with a friend (especially if we box up and go on a ride in forest etc) we will have brilliant craic with a few canters. Sometimes im in the mood to give a bit of schooling a go but generally its a nice relaxing plod! ;D

Well you all know about our hacks...not quite the birds singing and sun shining sort of hacks, but they are fun all the same.
And duckles, I noticed the same thing about Faith's halts the other day and tries to consciously put my right seatbone forward a bit - to me it felt crooked too but I think I must be crooked anyway - and her halts were much better and squarer too...just got to consciously remind myself to sit properly and then we've cracked it!

It sounds good Duckles and I will try your seatbone thingy as Paco often does the same thing (although with him it is often because he is slouching along ) I was a bit naughty yesterday as the sun was out, it was warm and the birds were singing so I went for a bit of a blast. Paco was very spooky but eventually settled down so I pottered along until I realised I was a long way from home and there was little time to get back, so we opened up the throttle. I like being on my own since I can go as fast or slow as I like so this time I went all out: Paco really didn't want to slow his canter down when we came to a bend in the track and we went round so fast that he had no time to avoid a large and deep puddle! Sploooosh! Then we covered a lot of ground in trot and he was wonderful - really round and striding out and I was dead chuffed. It's great when it all goes well, isn't it! ;D
