Yep, you guessed it, the hairy pony has done it again! Guess what she just did? Bolted and left me behind! We were out hacking and she was being her normal lazy self (I think she's a bit less forward going at the beginning of a ride because she gets a bit stiff from standing still all night) and when I wouldn't let her eat the grass, she decided it was time to forget being lazy and buck and rear to annoy her mum - didn't get me off, just got me annoyed. I made her carry on only to get round the next corner for her to continue her rearing/bucking session every two steps. Of course, after multiple near-vertical rears and a few bucks (I think she's just figured out how to buck lol so they're not that huge yet) her saddle had slipped back and my position felt wrong, so off I got to rearrange it when the pudding decides to go sniff the electric fence surrounding the field, electric-shocks her nose and runs off without me! Her exercise sheet slipped as she ran ( it was wafting about behind her, which made her run faster, but it eventually fell off); her saddle was loose from being repositioned and her reins were still around her neck. Luckily she is a very clever pony and took herself back to the yard where one of my lovely friends found her, untacked her and put her back in her stable while her mum came to find me and see if I was ok. No idea how on earth she managed it (I'm starting to believe that there must be a god watching over us) but she got back home without so much as a scratch! All of her tack is fine - just a bit muddy -, she's fine (although looks like her bridle rubbed a bit around her mouth, but that could just have been from general use) and do you want to know the best bit? ?? SHE'S STILL SQUARE!!! ;D Me thinks the beastie needs more work! (and Flea - you know when you said about Princess getting crazier as she got fitter? I think that's what's happening here! She's a mad thing! The nutter :

Goodness!!! Well on the positive side, you seem very upbeat about this and on the really positive side, her pelvis is still ok ( I totally understand this having a horse who also puts out his pelvis with the ease that other horses shake their manes) I think Faith is ready for Lessons!!! I hope your ok Spotti- these things happen, we laugh about them but they are not nice- still they teach us stuff- karma to you

I think Faith is ready for lessons too - just got to find someone who will give me some! (and try to persuade Faith that schooling isn't quite as boring as it first seems...also got to persuade myself the same thing ) She really had me worried as she ran off into the distance as she still had her reins around her neck and I didn't want her to trip/get caught up in them AND she was headed out towards the road...luckily she's a clever pony and seems to have quite a lot of road sense and didn't go where she didn't need to, and apparently she just ran straight up to my friend (she has a hairy pony too!!!) and stopped with her! She's a pudding! Currently, I'm thinking of giving her another week or two of walking/trotting and then I'm going to teach her to canter (which could be interesting since she doesn't know how to do it!!!) and then maybe attempt another tiny crosspole or two... *gets excited* - I can't believe she's actually well enough to even be thinking about these things!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Me thinks there is something in the air at the moment! Almost everyone one my yard hacked out this morning and we all had "eventful" rides! All the horses were on their toes and Aj did some beautiful collected canter up the lane!
Glad to hear Faith got her slef home unscaithed Zx

Bless AJ - isn't it annoying though how they do absolutely beautiful stuff (AJ's collected canter and Faith's amazing extended trot) right when you really don't want them to? Yet when you want it, then nope, not a prayer of getting anything close!!
I think they do it on purpose you know...show us what they can do and then tease us because they're never going to let us have it!

Spotti, at the time of his collected canter the last thing I was thinking was "aww bless him" more like " you f*****g l****e s**t, b****y behave yourself" as my friend was speaking words of encouragement however her face was saying "b****y hell, the horse is a loonatic!" Still we got home in one piece and I can't wait for tomorrow Zx

Haha spotti! If faith was my pony, im sorry to say i would not get on her!! My nerves are frazzled enough! Youre so brave!
Well, feed didnt have much of an impact on her although it does blow her brains - makes her even more wound up. Still, she gets loony even without feed. I remember one day she hadnt been ridden in ages and i had to *kick* her to get her to trot - i couldnt believe it. Thats the only time shes been lazy really, one day out of many! Anyhoo - her new owner is having a ball on her!

Well Flea, I must be brave (or just stupid) then 'cos I've been on her again today! Took her out in-hand first to make sure she wasn't going to be a loon (she was ok at first, a bit reluctant, but ok until she saw the boys...then she was 'little miss flirty pants' and refused to walk and pranced everywhere) and then we came back, got tacked up and on I got...we didn't get very far before she decided being silly was more fun. We got round the first corner and then she wouldn't walk forward unless she followed someone (we ended up following these random strangers - poor girls must have thought I was a nutter) and then we got round the next corner only for her to refuse point blank to go any further. She reared, and bucked and planted her feet, went backwards, sideways, pulled me about...anything but forwards, so we sat there for about 20 mins - just sat (Faith tried pulling for grass but I was having none of it) - quietly asking her to walk on but the only response I got was rear/buck/walk backwards so we carried on sitting. Eventually she got bored of just sitting and decided to walk forwards (albeit in the direction of home, but she moved when I asked her to so I wasn't going to argue with that) and went through the gate and stopped at the junction/driveway thing to wait for the car to pass and then we trotted (intentionally!!) down the road, round the corner and back onto the yard.
Me thinks its going to take a while to get over this whole thing BUT I have tonnes of patience and plenty of time so its not a problem.
And although she was a nutter and is a silly old pudding, there is a few positives: - 1) I didn't fall off 2) She didn't run off 3) My position has never been so secure!

She certainly likes to make life interesting for you. I'm glad to hear that you're not hurt at all.

She most certainly does! I think that she likes to think of herself as my teacher and seems to go out of her way to teach me how/how not to do things. For example, when I first got her I couldn't sit to a rear - now I can, even vertical ones and ones where she nearly goes over (that one was accidental). Also never used to be able to ride bucks, but she's currently teaching me about those too. I can now jump (sort of); stay onboard and not panic if she bolts, trot an bend really really low under trees (she likes to test my balance here you see); ride out on roads; ride bareback/stirrup-less and not fall off AND we can now open gates etc while still mounted!!!! So even though her methods are a wee bit eccentric, they certainly are working lol! ;D

I mush have not looked at this section for a while, better late than never hehe naughty faith! One thing i will say is you want to try get her out of the habit of rearing, esp as she is going near vertical cos i'm sure she wont be square if she goes over , eeek, mind you i don't think you would be very square either :/ . never dealt with a rearer so i canny help sorry. Try when you school her to to lots of random shapes, weaving, stopping starting turning to keep it interesting for her, and you could trick her into working buy doing it in a field, thats how i catch bern out I doo love your stories though spotti sooo entertaining haha
