Hi, thought this thread might be best in showing as its purerly an aesthetic question!
How do I encourage Moomin's mane to lie the correct side?
When pulling it do I comb it over the the right side then pull it? (I use a solo comb as she hates it being pulled).

as kate says plait it over but dont roll the plaits but it will eventually go back if you dont keep doing it! learn to love the mane on the wrong side!! max is a half and half!

Ive heard that mane lying on the wrong side can indicate a problem in that area? (Which makes sense as Gem has a sore poll, and her mane lies on the wrong side there, but no where else)

HI Use one of these to pull the mane- its completely painless and really thins it out- then use a solo comb to take the ends off to even it up. to use just brush the mane on the wrong side then run this over it a few times, brush to the correct side and even up with solo comb. It pulls tails too and the horses dont feel a thing! Also does not grwo back bushy. brig www.clippersharp.com/smart_grooming/smart_manes

I find it incomprehensible that there should be a 'right' and 'wrong' side. Here we say that the horse's mane will fall to its 'feebler' side, eg Paco is right-handed (he finds working on the left rein more difficult that the right) so his mane falls to the left, Racaille is left-hoofed so his mane falls to the right. It is infallible. But we don't show so it doesn't matter. Just as well, as nothing would convince Paco's long Spanish mane to fall to the right. ;D

Rainbows falls mainly to the right but the odd bit goes to the left. i put it to the right then she shakes and it goes back Like the other day palited her mane up in a running plait, did it really nice, she shook and it all cam out. silly mare

should be on the right, but theres theres not a lot of point in the whole one sided thing. to get it that side, wet the mane and plait it in fairly tight, long plaits, and put a full neck rug on if you can to help squish them down! might help to bath/ shampoo it on that side on a warm day too xx

LOL.. years ago, when I was a wee lass... I had a pone, who's mane was really wild .. he was then clipped and hogged. when his mane grew.. it was like a yard brush .. so it was pulled it a inch of his life and when it was long enough..... I used.......... spounge rollers it lay it to the correct side! he slept and worked in rollers ;D.. He was known as Hilda! (as in ogden) ;D but it worked. He never had a wild mane ever again

WOW. im going to put rollers in sox's mane, haha!
after a week it all flopped up again (its been vertical since i pulled it, its still about 6imches long and quite thick!)
apparently you have to dampen it, plait it to one side, leave it in for 3 days, leave it out a day then plait it over again! x

Poppy's is sticking up like a loo brush since I pulled it to around 4 inches, but can't be *rsed to keep plaiting it and wetting it to keep it over to the right. What a Kerfuffle!!
