Today the chap came to see Luna. He was absoulutly lovely obivously really understood horses. He thought she was excellent for a two year old, we took her for a walk around the jumps through the wood and down the farmyard with no problems. She was half thinking about being silly but gave up after she realised it wasn't going to work. He offered us the full amount there and then and offered to leave a deposit. I declined having all of a sudden got a very mixed batch of emotions. He had had his last horse for a very long time, and lost her and her unborn foal a little while back due to a heart attack. I could tell by his voice he obivously loved this mare a lot. Anyways later on he sent us a message saying he had been feeling very emotional about it and thought it was probably a bit soon after the loss of his mare. and pulled out. I have had a long coversation with my OH because I am so unsure about what to do. He says he thinks with me there will always be a "what if" factor. So i either need to take the challenge head on and except there will be good days and bad or give up. Mr Low who helps me has worked with horses for 70 years and has a good eye, and he really likes Luna. I have three offers of help for backing and OH says he would pay for her to be proffesionally backed. So I'm gonna give this my all and really try. (sorry for the essay).

That's wonderful - I have to agree -your OH sounds great. ANd you have the help and support of others too. Maybe putting her up for sale just clarified everything. I feel sorry for the poor buyer losing his mare and foal. Looking forward to hearing more

Thats lovely news.....there will be good and bad days like you say but the good outweigh the bad and it's wonderful when you start riding your 'baby'. There isn't a better feeling and it's well worth the despair, heartache and tears (or was that just me?) you experience along the way.

Oh Im so pleased, it sounds as though you had to go through this process to get it right in your mind- so at least now you can look forward to the future knowing youve made your choice for the right reasons. Your OH sounds really sensible and supportive, with such help how can this fail.
The potential purchaser is going through a process too- its sad for him but he too needs to travel a road and will reach the right destination as you have.
Good luck with this- you deserve it. brig

So glad you decided to keep her. She will probably turn out to be the best horse you have ever had. My OH would have done exactly the same as yours and he is not a horse lover but understands my passion and supports me all the time. Keep smiling. x

I'm really pleased for you and Luna. And you OH sounds fantastic! We should hold him up as a shining example to all other dubious non-horsy OHs. ;D ;D ;D

Really really glad you ahve decided to keep her... Dont put any pressure on yourself tho...If it goes well, you could have an amazing horse with a great bond..but if it turns out after she is backed that you dont feel ready for a youngster, you can sell her then in the knowledge you really gave her the best possible start in life - which I think is the best thing you can do for a horse... Take it step by step and dont pressure yourself into thinking 10 years in the furture...just think one step of training at a time...

Thanks guys I am just gonna take it one day at a time. OH is brill, and knows what im thinking before i do. He suggested riding a few TBs to see if i enjoyed the ride! which would be tre sensible. I feel like Luna is my baby really i spouse lol. I slogged my guts out all winter, avoiding getting bitten, working through rearing mucking out stables etc. If i sold her now someone else would be having all the fun, after all my hard work. My dad said my uncle would send me another TB if i wanted one but i really like Luna. She has the potenial to be everything i could want, so i gotta take the oppurtunity. I just gotta remeber she is a baby and will do baby things, & not to take it personally!

I am a great believer in Fate and it looks like Fate says you and Luna are a partnership..... ;D The fact that you swithered and then the potential purchaser pulled out shows that selling her is not the way forward. Good luck.
