As some of you may recall i have been tackling my hacking nerves and have been venturing out and about. This morning I had arranged to go out with my friend Deddie and her TB Cory (see TB for sale thread). On arriving at the yard it was a lovely bright day but VERY windy! Well this would normally stop me in my tracks but Debbie "bullied / shamed" me into going! Well AJ felt like a caged tiger and I was sooooooooo tense. We set off and I had to chat useless gossip just to keep breathing. We turned left up the road and onto the track, he was fine until we got onto the flat bit and he could hear shouting - I thought he was going to explode , i had to really concentrate on staying relaxed and bot holding his head too tight. Well we got home in one piece and with no bucking or leaping; we did however meet a very noisy moped which did make him jump a bit but overall i was was as we say in GOC "well chuffed"! Zx

Well done Zara, this is such a big step. Like the bit when you talked about anything just to remember to breathe, will do this myself now that I know it works .

My advice to others is to "smile, go "floppy", relax your hands and breathe". I know it works but it can be soooooooooo hard to do when you are terrified lol! Thanx DB and good luck with your beautiful boy Zx

Well done Zara- you must be so proud of yourself and AJ. Coping with difficult things like this will do wonders for your confidence and I agree with your advice- excellent.

Phew! But you made it back in one piece which is a GOOD THING!!!! Wind is a horror - it sends our horses crackers. In fact, they say about the Mistral that it can blow the legs off a donkey and send men mad .....

Well done! I try to ignore the wind - its only wind after all and stay relaxed, if the horse is generally fine anyway. But if its being a bit jumpy i try to put my mind into blank mode and not think anything and just do the bare minimum of riding. No more than you have to, to keep yourself calm. Although maybe thats just for me to keep the horse slow!
