At the bottom of our neighbours is a Bridlepath cross roads. The whole west side is woodland and N & W go to the road. S leads back to the farm and East is open and heads up the hill to the pigs. Me and Fire were on a hack yesterday and it was really windy. I've started to do cantering on him now and he has been incrediable lively. but I've found cantering up the hill towards the pigs I get a sensible canter out of him. (because obivously he doesn't want to head like lighnting to the pigs ) we'd just cantered to the top of the hill and slowed him up and he was having a look at a yellow teleporter on the pig field when I heard a really loud rumble. I listened for a second and then realised what it was. Motorbikes! I quickly jumped off and just after my feet hit the floor, 4 motorbikers appeared going at speed, revving like crazy. Fire spun around on the spot to look at them (I don't think he'd even heard them he was so focused on the pigs) They went tearing up where we'd just come from. scary thing is...if they'd been 30 seconds sooner they'd have hit us. Its a completley blind turning there & I wouldn't have heard anything under the blowing trees. It was really wierd i had a trot in a place i never have a trot...and I think if we hadn't we'd have met I was feeling a lil bit shaken afterwards.

Flippen heck!! At least your both ok! Strange how the brain kinda stops you doing something that you find out afterwards could have gotten you really hurt! Its happened to me a couple of times. What on earth were those pillocks on motorbikes thinking? WHY do people think its perfectly fine to hooley up roads/paths scaring horses? ?

Doesn't bear thinking about I'm not too fond of motorbikes anyway but this is just madness. Thank God you are both fine!

Sounds like you had a very lucky break! Glad you are both OK. We get trail bikers on the track behind us quite often, up to now i haven't met them on AJ but I hear them and see them often. They are generally well mannered by all accounts and stop their engines but I'm really not looking forward to meeting them Zx

That is a bad one, have to say, it gave me the jitters reading it. I can totally imagine it. Well done for your quick reaction. I hope it won't stop you hacking there. I hate meeting bikes but in the wind, even worse

It's the 'what if' shivers afterwards that are the worst, isn't it? At the time your adrenalin gets you going but I always become jelly later on. Well done for your quick reaction - and well done Fire - it sounds as though he was pretty brave.

Phew, thank goodness you are ok. We have a lot of motorbikes on the bridle paths where we hack out - they don't always stop and often rev the engine as you go past which can be very scary.

They are so unaware of whats going around them, its dangerous. Fire is very good with M.bikes tbh he was more bothered about watchin the pigs I think I have my bro and his dopey friend to thank for that, they had an electric bicycle and a 50cc bike they used to ride round his paddock and the farm. so he's well used to them. Its really annoying because A) We live less than 2 miles from a proper off road bike track. B) Restricted byways are for no motor vechiles! At least the ones who have noticed us have been polite enough to steady, it must be horrid if they don't slow up/keep on revving! I was v. nervous bout going for a ride yesterday. I managed to convince my OH to walk out with us. Roll on Summer! *touchwood* they all seem to have better things to do during Summer. none of them are very big, kids with too much time me thinks.

We had a guy who at 92 used to come out on the 2 hour hacks. Every time he saw a motor bike on the bridle paths he kept telling them that they shouldn't be there and that he was going to call the police as he waved his mobile phone around. I was always worried that we were going to have to pull a load of bikers off him

Sometimes... he made up for it though, cantering down the meadow he just piles on the brakes, pulls a sharp left and spins a circle to have a snort at the invisable monsters. Dunno how I stayed on!
