Having needed a new hat for some time I actually went today to a big store and got fitted for a new one. I like the jockey skull type and tried loads, the one I got is the Charles Owen Ultralite, I chose this because it was the most comfortable of all in that it doesn't feel too heavy, some of them fitted well but felt really bulky. I have had Champion skulls before but their new ones were all a bit cumbersome.
Haven't ridden in it yet but will let you know how I get on tomorrow. Anyone else tried this hat?

Just an update really, have been out twice now on two hours hacks (too dangerous at moment to go off road with the ice) and am delighted to report that my new hat is wonderful, I don't feel like I am actually wearing one and completely forget about it.
I would definately recommend it for comfort and value for money (plus you get a silk included in the price.)
I was going to buy on-line but glad I didn't, was a different size in various different makes!

Ive only really had 2 riding hats. First one was a Champion skull and I got a navy velvet silk with it - although i think it was bought separately. Current one is a champion riding hat in black. Didnt have any navy so im not even matching my showjacket! Ah well. I like the look of the skull caps with the vents/silver strip.

Hi Flea
I didn't like the vented ones when I saw them, and wasn't keen on it when I tried them on But they are really popular, there are lots worn round here, so they must be pretty good.

I need a new hat- I use a jockey skull that must be twenty years old but is comfy. My smart hat pinches badly so I may need two- one for best and one for work riding! Ill look at that one Jane as I think the vented ones are a bit robocop!!!! And I like the idea its light. Where did you get it?

Hi Brig Naughty girl with old old hat.... hehe - exactly the same as me, I am hideously embarrassed to admit I bought my last one in 1988. Anyway I feel better now I have the new one.... and it is beautifully comfortable and light. I bought it at a Countrywide store, but if you go on the Charles Owen Website there is a stockist section but looking at the map they are sold everywhere. charlesowen.com/en/index.php?c=uniI was a half size smaller in this make than I had expected and I do think it is worth trying them on.
